Season's Greetings from  Glade Run Adventures!
Taco to once again star in the Christmas Cantata!
A donkey pushing tradition continues!
It's a Christmas season highlight to say the least.  As the story of Christ's birth is told in song and scripture,  d espite his reservations about walking down the  chapel  aisle, Taco has been cajoled, nudged, had his back end lifted, and left his "mark" almost e very year of his residency during Glade Run's annual Christmas cantata. This year, he'll be back at it and YOU  are invited!!  The Spiritual Care department has extended an invitation to our larger Glade Run family to attend this year's Christmas service tradition.  It's something that will truly make your holiday memorable.  Service will be held in the
Specialty Services Building on Tuesday, December 15th at 5:30PM Refreshments to follow.
Call to RSVP (724) 452-4453 ext. 1236.

In the Spirit of Giving
Much appreciated donations arrive in time to stuff some animal stockings

Anyone else have "bug block" or "vetrap" on their Christmas list? How about chicken scratch crumbles or senior horse feed? We are a unique program, but more unique are families like the Nordbys.  Sarah Nordby took it upon herself to solicit donations from her church to benefit the animals of Glade Run Adventures.  Not only do we feel blessed by Sarah's efforts on behalf of the kids and families who benefit from the Program, the chickens and horses are especially excited for the additional treats finding their way to their lips this season! Thanks so much Sarah and Peter for being YOU!

Volunteer Spotlight - Ursula Masters
Volunteers make it happen in Adventures!
Horticulture Program Specialist, Joanie Lapic, interviewed Ursula on why she loves to volunteer at Glade Run.
J: Why did you choose  to volunteer at  Glade Run ?
U: I visited the spring plant sale with Joe and I realized that I really liked the place and wanted to sign up for volunteering.
J: What do you like best about the Adventures  Horticulture Program?
U: Playing in the gardens and seeing animals was taking me back to my old home life. I have freedom to be outside helping out with all the plants and see mother nature at work.  And the best thing of all, I have the opportunity to learn so much from a Master Herbalist who is always willing to share valuable information. I am not just helping, I am receiving much, much more.
J: How does it benefit you to volunteer at Glade Run?
U: I am learning new things each time I visit Glade Run. I am running out of garden space at my house.  Glade Run has so much outside space that I should be content and busy for very long time!
J: What do you find most interesting about volunteering with us?
U: I enjoy hearing about Glade Run children who like to participate in the Horticulture activities and the projects that they work on.  Their contribution to the gardens is valuable and memorable.
J: Do you have any other thoughts about volunteering?
U: My family misses me when I am away at Glade Run, but I am hoping that with time, some of them will join me in becoming volunteers themselves.  Volunteering is so much fun, that I don't see it as work but as playing outside

John loves Gabby
The amazing powers of feathered friends
included with permission from an email sent from Anne Funk (John's mom)
"Love" is an understatement for what John feels for Glade Run.  Last weekend while Rebekah was riding, John sat in a chair and held "Gabby" (his favorite chicken) for 45
minutes.  She fell asleep on his lap.  Him focusing on something for that long is amazing. I just wanted to share a huge win for John for which we credit Glade Run and both Carrie Moll and Carrie Bailey. We were at the barn on Thursday for a visit even though we weren't riding that day. As I told Carrie M., on Thursdays, we come to Glade Run, no matter what. John is completely infatuated with the chickens.  Gabby is his favorite...and Miss Carrie (Bailey) knows every chicken by name. He's working on that! While we were there for our chicken visit, we were graciously given almost a dozen fresh eggs. We brought them home, and this morning, John had eggs for breakfast. As he would tell you, "I ate Gabby's eggs!". While John has picked at eating eggs in the past, this morning he cleaned his plate! I just want to thank you for, once again, helping John to find the best parts of himself. We are so humbled by everything that Glade Run has done for John; but most importantly, we are so grateful for the people that are the heart and soul of this organization! Thank You!

All Best,
Anne Funk

Kirby Heading Home
Retirement for a favorite friend
The kids each have their favorite horse, and Kirby is just about every kid's favorite.  He's kind, gentle, responsive, and, well, getting pretty old. We wish he'd come when he was younger, we wish his joints didn't ache, and we wish he wasn't retiring. Despite our sadness, we are focusing on all of the wonderful exchanges Kirby has offered kids over the years.  I recall one camper crying on the last day of camp because he had to leave Kirby behind. I am feeling just like that camper did now with Kirby leaving us behind.  We have been abundantly lucky to have him with us and are happy he has a wonderful home and pasture friends waiting for him to return. Sometime before Christmas, we will be saying "Happy Retirement" to Kirby and "Thanks" to Carrie Moll for sharing her awesome horse with Glade Run.
