Adaptive Toys

Thanks to the Margarita Society Huntsville and TASC's annual Watts for Tots event, our lending library has been restocked with a great inventory of switch adapted toys!  If you have any questions about toy adaption, or if you would like to learn more about demonstration and loan of switch adapted toys, email AT Specialist Kate Moseley at [email protected]

When looking to buy adaptive toys,  Enabling Devices has a wonderful selection, including  CD Boomboxes, interactive stuffed animals, and a variety of devices with either lightswind, or sound for sensory play.

Enable Mart also has a great selection of adaptive toys, including the  Skoog (a musical instrument accessible to all),  Puppy Dog ToyColor Bugs, and so much more!

Broadened Horizons has a wonderful selection of recreational adapted devices, including video game controllers, adaptive outdoor equipment, travel products, and more.

Inclusive  Celebrations

All the lights, scents, noises, and change associated with the holidays can be overwhelming for individuals with disabilities. Here are a few ways to make the holidays run smoothly and create an enjoyable time for everyone.

The National Autism Society has a wonderful checklist on how to introduce the holidays each season.

Car Autism Roadmap features an article on ideas and tips for celebrations, including links to additional resources.

Last, but certainly not least, the Positivly AUtism website has PDF printable with social stories and worksheets to prepare for the holidays!

Looking for adaptive clothing options to help people of all abilities enjoy the winter months? Koolway Sports has a great Kool Koat for keeping warm and a  Kool Kape for wheelchair users. IZ makes a variety of accessible clothing, including this stylish leather coat for ladies and one for men. These items are great gift ideas that can help everyone get  outside to enjoy holiday lights and events!
