Dear AskBarbara,

My 10 year old daughter recently told me that she was repeatedly teased and bullied during the last few weeks of school and now she is worried about going to camp because she doesn't want the same thing to happen all over again.

My daughter is a typical kid who is a little tall for her age and wears glasses. Right before the end of  school she got braces and I think that's when the teasing started.

This just makes me feel sick! She's such a good kid and has always had lots of friends. I'm concerned because I understand that this cruel behavior can seriously affect children and even have

long-term, negative effects. How can I help my daughter deal with what has happened  and feel more confident about starting camp?

I would appreciate any advice you can give me.

Thank you,

Concerned Mom

Recent college graduates and others looking for employment will want to read the latest JFCS blog written by Christina Vega who convenes the Caf? group (Career Access for Everyone) held at JFCS twice each month. Christina comments on the opportunity to find employment success by "leaning in" and embracing one's capability and vulnerability simultaneously in job interviews. Christina notes that employers are looking beyond skill level when hiring, also wanting to judge how well employees can cope with stress, challenge and yes, disappointment.

JFCS is a great place to access for career counseling, educational and training scholarships, vocational rehabilitation, job dislocation services, training for careers in technology, and more! To learn more about all that we offer, please check out our website or contact us. We'll do our best to help you land that first or next job! Read Christina's blog here!

DID YOU KNOW: Discovering healing techniques that empower spiritual and emotional growth.

JFCS recently had the opportunity to host a very special 9-week program designed to empower participants living with, or a loved one living with a life threatening or chronic physical illness.

For Eileen Kohn, "Pathways' Renewing Life?was a life-changing, binding experience shared with people who were struggling with the same difficult issues I was - no matter what the illness. The trust and confidentiality established in the beginning made it safe for me to talk about my feelings and emotional journey. I gained new coping skills, communications skills, meditation and spiritual skills, and finally, the empowering and healing ability to accept both the things that I can control and those that I cannot. GIVE2015: Changing Lives
The need in our community continues to grow
While it's been over five years since the Great Recession officially ended, poverty remains high and millions of Americans can't afford the food they need to feed their families. Many families, including a growing number of suburban families, must choose between food and other basic needs like paying rent, transportation, or medical care.

For those in our community facing financial crisis, JFCS can help with programs providing financial assistance, career counseling and mental health services. And through our unique partnership with the PRISM Marketplace food shelf we can provide food and other personal necessities.

It is with your support that all of this is possible.

This year, when you renew your gift to GIVE2015, please consider increasing your gift by 20% and help support the growing needs of people in our community who turn to JFCS.

Consider our most critical need: Become a

driver for seniors!

Our Deikel Transportation program enables seniors in our community to live independently when they can count on rides to and from social events, errands and important appointments. Our seniors know they can count on our volunteers to provide safe, comfortable rides from a trusted, high-quality program. But the wheels won't turn without drivers like you.

No matter what's on your personal calendar, scheduling shifts is easier than ever with our Ride Scheduler software. Have a free hour or two in your day or week? Simply select the shift(s) you would like based on your schedule. Heading out of town? No worries-you can log in when you get back, and pick up where you left off.

Be a part of our caring and supportive JFCS volunteer community and provide a vital service to those we love. To volunteer contact Deb Savitt, Community Involvement Manager at

[email protected] or 952-542-4859
