"Communication is what makes our partnership work. You let us know what your clients can do and what your expectations of us are and we let you know and especially the individual who will be working for us what our expectations are. In the case of Efrain the entire staff treats him as part of the family and holds him accountable for the expectations we have for him and he has responded by meeting all our expectations as any other employee has to. We also have a very structured work environment which I believe helps the individuals such as Efrain meet our expectations and their own goals."

The Arc's Social Recreation program and The Plymouth Community Theatre
Through a partnership between the Arc's social recreation program and the Plymouth Community Theatre many of our members have had the opportunity to spread their wings and try out their acting chops. There have been both scripted programs as well as improv. Kasey Bishoff Plymouth Community Theatre board member and head pastry chef  at "For Goodness Cakes Bake Shop"  and Garrett Olson PCT board member and Vocational Specialist at Archways head up the program and are truly enjoying sharing their love of theatre with a whole new generation of up and coming actors. Both Kasey and Garrett are accomplished Actors in their own right and have shared the stage together a number of times and are now thrilled with the opportunity to share the stage and work with some of our own talented actors  at the Arc.

Recently four of our actors were hired for their first paid acting job! Friendship Day May 8, 2015 took place at the Laura Center for the Arts at the Hanover YMCA. Patrick McLeod, Leigh-Ann Barry, Cait McCafferty and Eric Aldersley joined Kasey and Garrett on stage to perform a number of Improv performances highlighting themes such as "the importance of friendship" "how hard it can be at times to make friends" and "what is a true friend".

The group's performance was a great success and has received great reviews and positive responses from all that attended friendship day. The focus was on friendship and creating strong and lasting friendships between all people with and without disabilities. The performances were both funny and thought provoking and the actors performances were inspiring and very funny and when the group was asked if they would do it again the response from all was "YES!!"

So keep an eye out on a stage (or screen) near you because you never know who might just pop up and make you go "hey! I know them!"
"Dress for Success"
On Monday June 15th at the American Legion family and friends were treated to a Fashion Show "Dress for Success" featuring members of The Arc of Greater Plymouth's Life Skills Health and Beauty and Men's Health classes.

The "Dress for Success" fashion show is a result of 5 weeks of classes teaching skills such as use of skin care and hair products to keep us looking our best; learning  how to make healthy snacks; the appropriate attire to wear for every occasion and the importance of fitness and exercise.

Thank you to all of our class participants! Also thank you to Fashion Specialist Karen Eckl from Macy's for helping our participants choose their clothing; Carol Faria from PSHS Cosmetology and all of her amazing students who  have been so much help all year; Teresa Bonetti from PNHS for her support and commitment and Maria Wood from Fashion  Focus for her expertise
