Student Engagement Earns Reinhardt University National, State, and Religious Recognitions as a College of Distinction, a Georgia College of Distinction and a Christian College of Distinction
"The honor is noteworthy because it recognizes institutions that focus on student engagement and achievement," said Dr. Mark A. Roberts, vice president and dean for academic affairs. "All in this category have unique aspects which include great teaching and the data to back that up," he said. "Just like the others in the group, Reinhardt has a vibrant community where students are engaged on campus. Our successful outcomes show students are benefiting from the Reinhardt experience in very real ways."
Director of Admissions Lacey Satterfield '02 said the designation will help prospective students know what to expect. "Being named a College of Distinction confirms to others what we've known internally all along. Reinhardt creates opportunities for students to have unique, life-changing experiences while they earn their degrees."
4 Distinctions: Engaged Students, Great Teaching, Vibrant Community, and Successful Outcomes
Selected schools must demonstrate results in all four distinctions: Engaged Students, Great Teaching, Vibrant Community, and Successful Outcomes. High school counselors and educators make nominations, and each school is evaluated on key indicators including student engagement, student empowerment and curricular innovation. Colleges that have distinguished themselves in each of the four distinctions and have demonstrated dedication to enriching student outcomes through innovative learning opportunities are then invited to join Colleges of Distinction.

5K for A DAY Picks up Speed for Fundraising Campaign
The inaugural 5K for A Day was held Sept. 19 in beautiful Downtown Canton, GA, and welcomed 126 participants. More than $12,000 was raised to benefit student scholarships.
"I am pleased to say that our first annual 5K for A DAY was a success," said Dale Morrissey, director of fundraising campaigns and church relations. "This would not have been possible without the participants, volunteers and all our sponsors. A sincere thanks to all for their generosity."
"With the help of our supporters, student lives are enriched through scholarships. When students benefit, we all benefit. Thank you to everyone that made this event a successful one."

Civil War Swords of Reinhardt's Co-Founders Donated for Display on Campus
It was a "sharp" presentation today as the Civil War swords of Reinhardt's co-founders Lt. Col. John J.A. Sharp and Capt. Augustus Michael Reinhardt were formally presented for display at the University. Sherry Gray, the great-granddaughter of Sharp, donated the swords, along with Jim Davis, the great-grandson of Sharp, to Reinhardt in honor of their ancestor.
"To understand Reinhardt history today, one must search Reinhardt yesterday," said President Dr. Kina Mallard. She welcomed the donors and family in attendance, and introduced Dr. Kenneth Wheeler, professor of history, who spoke on the biographical history of Sharp and Reinhardt leading up to Reinhardt's founding in 1883.

Supreme Court Justice Keith Blackwell Addresses Reinhardt Community on Constitution Day
"The Constitution is the Supreme law of the land, and on Constitution Day, we honor and celebrate the privileges and responsibilities we have as U.S. citizens," said Karen Owen director of the MPA program. "It's a day to celebrate the ideals and freedoms, as well as the legal and governmental structure, that make the United States of America unique and exceptional."
The event was one of many being held at educational institutions across the county on that day. Blackwell was invited to take part in event because of his family roots in Cherokee County, and because he is very well-versed in the U.S. Constitution and Georgia Constitution.
"As a justice on the Georgia Supreme Court, he is a legal expert and can provide a wealth of knowledge about the Constitution, its interpretation, and its impact on many of today's political debates and issues," Owen said.

Reinhardt and Funk Heritage Center Accept Generous
Donations from Amicalola
Electric Membership Corporation
Amicalola Electric Membership Corporation recently donated $20,000 to Reinhardt University for scholarships to students whose households are served by Amicalola EMC. The Amicalola EMC Scholars Funds will be distributed to students who are attending Reinhardt and need financial assistance with their education. A $5,000 donation was also given to the Funk Heritage Center at Reinhardt.
"These generous gifts from Amicalola EMC will enable us to grant awards to students who need help to attend Reinhardt," said Tim Norton, vice president for advancement. "We are very grateful this business is willing to reach and invest in the community."

Coloring the Campus in Blue and Gold!
More than 70 Reinhardt students, faculty and staff attended Campus Beautification Day on the rainy day of Sept. 25. Volunteers helped to color the campus blue and gold by landscaping around
the Administration Building with Blue Creeping Thrift, Blue Metal Grass and Sunshine Gold Ligustrum, and along the sidewalk from the Student Center to the Library with Popcorn Drift (Yellow/Gold Colored) Dwarf Roses and "Blue Heaven" Dwarf Butterfly Bushes. All four "Welcome to Waleska" signs on Hwy 140 and 108 were landscaped with "Blue Heaven" Dwarf Butterfly Bushes and Gold Sunshine Ligustrum. In total, more than 200 plants were installed on campus and in the community. Beautification efforts also included cleaning up the volleyball court and around campus.
"It was amazing to see the service the Reinhardt family did to help improve the beauty of our campus and community," said Zach White, horticulturist and Campus Beautification Day coordinator. "Thank you to all the volunteers that came out in full force!"

No. 14 Reinhardt scored 66 unanswered points, breaking a 14-14 tie to roll to an 80-14 win over Bluefield Saturday afternoon at Historic Mitchell Stadium.
"We just came out and did what we were supposed to do," said RU head coach
Drew Cronic, who saw his team stay undefeated (5-0) and lock up a non-losing season for the third year in a row. "We gave up two big plays early, but after that, our defense settled down and made things tough. We got some big plays to really get going on offense. I'm glad we were able to get a lot of guys in there today and get some of our guys that were banged up some rest."
