Funk Heritage Center Welcomes 1,500 School Children for Georgia History Timeline

School-age students stepped back in time last week when they crossed a bridge into the Appalachian Settlement behind the Funk Heritage Center to attend the annual Georgia History Timeline.

Each October, more than 1,500 students in grades 2-8 enjoy this one-of-a-kind living history program. The timeline gives students the opportunity to learn about Georgia history as they visit professional re-enactors or history interpreters who portray historical characters.

Professor's Efforts to Benefit Orphanage in Kenya

School supplies collected by Dr. Joann Adeogun, an assistant professor of business at Reinhardt University, are headed to Kenya Oct. 17, 2015.  Their destination is an orphanage run by Canton-based nonprofit SERV International.  The 3461 items were donated by Reinhardt students, faculty and staff and included 1401 pencils, 224 pens, 600 crayons and markers, 163 pieces of chalk, 672 notebooks or paper items, 113 dictionaries and thesauruses, 243 erasers, and miscellaneous items like packs of rubber bands, rulers and pencil sharpeners.

Adeogun described the supply drive as her way of giving back. "It has nothing to do with any class," she said. "It was just a project worth doing."

Reinhardt's Year Of Program Gives Evidence of Vibrant Community for Colleges of Distinction

Selected schools must demonstrate results in all four distinctions: Engaged Students, Great Teaching, Vibrant Community, and Successful Outcomes.

High school counselors and educators make nominations, and each school is evaluated on key indicators including student engagement, student empowerment and curricular innovation. Colleges that have distinguished themselves in each of the four distinctions and have demonstrated dedication to enriching student outcomes through innovative learning opportunities are then invited to join Colleges of Distinction.

The College of Distinction web site highlights many of the ways Reinhardt addresses each of the four distinctions. Among those are the University's Year Of program, which provides numerous programs focused on a selected region of the world, helps internationalize the campus and is evidence of a vibrant community.

Your Eagles are Now 6-0!

No. 10 Faulkner (Ala.) led 21-3 less than two minutes into the second quarter of Saturday's game. By the end of the first half, No. 13 Reinhardt (Ga.) had the lead for good.

Ryan Thompson threw for 347 yards and two touchdowns as the Eagles rolled to 52 points in a row, knocking off visiting Faulkner 55-27 in front of 1,014 fans at Ken White Field in Mid-South Conference West Division action.

"It's a big win, and every week, the wins get bigger," said RU head coach Drew Cronic, who stayed undefeated as a head coach (6-0, 1-0 MSC-W) and saw his team clinch a winning season. "Honestly, I'm really proud of our defense. After [Faulkner] ran right through us, we shut them down totally. We kept making adjustments, and our kids really responded."

Cross Country Teams Perform Well at Disney

Reinhardt's cross country teams may have been participating in the Disney Cross Country Classic in Kissimmee, Fla., Saturday, but it was no Mickey Mouse meet. Both teams performed well with solid average team times in heat and humidity and against opponents from across the spectrum of collegiate classifications.

"We train for heat and humidity, but it's tough to race in conditions like we faced," said RU head coach Jordan Turner. "I'm proud of the way we ran in a large meet environment against quality teams from around the nation. I'm also grateful that we could compete on a big stage."
