A SPR Introduction to UUMC's New Minister:
Dr. Jane Riecke

Starting in July, our new senior minister will be the Reverend Dr. Jane Riecke, but after visiting with her on the phone I feel very comfortable calling her Jane. Jane was born and raised in Pennsylvania. She moved to Texas to attend the University of Texas in Austin where she met her husband, Brian. Jane later graduated from Texas Christian University with a bachelor's of general studies with a double concentration in theater and history. She graduated from Perkins School of Theology at SMU in 1987. Her doctorate in ministry was awarded in 2012.

Jane is currently the senior minister at First Methodist in Loveland, Colorado where she has served since 2007. She is married and has two sons; one of them will be joining her in Baton Rouge and returning to College. She is looking forward to returning to the South and Southern hospitality. She plans on meeting with as many members of the congregation as possible and she is eager to explore our unique opportunities on the campus of LSU. Her first visit will be in April to find a place to live and to touch base with the leadership of the church. Her husband is from New Orleans and is a retired Methodist Minister. Although they have a house in Covington, Jane understands the importance of having a residence in Baton Rouge and being connected to the community.

The internet allows you to see recordings of her sermons at her current church website ( http://www.seekchristtoday.org - video of sermons at https://vimeo.com/user6276511/videos ) and you can see a very vibrant leader and preacher. I am looking forward to seeing her in person. She will be driving down in June and beginning her new ministry the first Sunday in July. I know your prayers and good wishes will be appreciated by Jane and your SPR committee.

Mark your calendar for the Chapel Choir presentation of
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
on Sunday, April 26, 2015
at 7:00 PM
in the Sanctuary

All are invited to attend and there is no charge! There will be a love offering collected to help offset the cost of the performance and to support our Chapel Choir.

This musical adds life to the Biblical story of Joseph and his coat of many colors. Joseph is a favorite of his father but the envy of his brothers. Their jealousy spurs them to sell him into slavery, where he is taken to work in Egypt.

That is where Joseph's journey begins as he learns about suffering, justice and forgiveness. His reprieve comes when the Pharaoh hears of his gift to interpret dreams and appoints him as his right-hand man.

The plot twist occurs when Joseph's brothers come to him pleading for help, though they do not recognize him. Joseph has to decide whether to take his revenge or to forgive.

The performance will be full of vibrant music accompanied with some valuable lessons. The musical numbers involve a combination of pop, rock 'n' roll, country-western and many other musical styles to make this story exciting and memorable.

This will be a great event for all ages that you won't want to miss!
