A Future with Hope

Church Conference Report:

The prophet Jeremiah spoke God's reassuring words to the people during a season of rebuilding:

"For surely I know the plans I have for you, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope." (Jeremiah 29:11)

On Sunday, November 16, Hyde Park Community United Methodist Church voted to accept the invitation of the Ohio River Valley district for Nast Trinity to become a new church start in partnership with Hyde Park Community UMC. The vote, 73 in favor, 0 against with 0 abstentions, will allow a full-time pastor to begin on March 1, serving the community in Over-the-Rhine.

The Nast Trinity Task Force, chaired by Pastor Doug Johns, will be happy to respond to your questions.

Black: The Color of Strength

In the Navajo culture the color black is a symbol of physical strength. As the Body of Christ we can finish 2014 with strength, "in the black!"

As of this writing we are $183,565 in the red.

Thank you to all who have given generously all year. Thank you, too, for those who can help our church finish 2014 with strength through your faithful end-of-the-year giving.

Peace,

Pastor Cathy

Get Connected in Ministry
Thanksgiving Basket Ministry.  Due to the high probability of rain on Sunday, a tent has been constructed in the lower level parking lot to assemble the baskets. Please dress for the weather if you are helping out! Share your blessings by contributing, packing, and/or delivering 528 food baskets to needy families from 10:30 am-1:00 pm. There is an envelope included in the bulletin today for donations. Each basket costs $45 to fill, however any amount is welcomed. Make checks payable to HPCUMC, note: Thanksgiving Baskets.  Drop in the offering plate or mail to the church office.

Looking for a fun Sunday afternoon project?  Come downtown to the Nast location and help us serve dinner on Sunday, December 14, 3:00- 6:00 pm. There are 3 ways to help: Make a chicken casserole; bake brownies (9 x 13 pan), or come down and serve the meal. The schedule for serving is to arrive Downtown at 3:00 pm (help set up) and serve the meal from 4:00 pm to 5:30-5:45 pm. Contact Ruth Young with questions at 513-533-3042.  There will be sign-up sheets along with pans in the Welcome Center each of the remaining Sundays in November!

Our last host week of the year for IHN is coming up; November 30-December 7.  If you can help, please see the information and sign-up sheets on the IHN bulletin board.  Many ways to support this ministry; preparing meals and purchasing pantry supplies are just a few.

Confirmation 2015 is coming soon!  Confirmation classes will begin on January 18 and confirmands will be received on April 12.  There will be a lunch meeting on December 7 in Room 301 at 12:00 pm for those who are participating in confirmation.  There is no cost; however, please RSVP to Ken Miller at 979-8179 or [email protected]

Wanted: Your Personal Prayer Stories or Answered Prayers!  Sharing our inspiring personal stories will bring joy and encouragement to others.  God is glorified as these stories build up the faith of other believers. If you have experienced answered prayers or have learned from the experience of a yet unanswered prayer, would you share with us? We will compile a church prayer book to bless others as they walk their faith journey.  Please send your personal prayers to Lisa Rabinowitz, [email protected] by Dec 7. Length should be approximately 2-5 paragraphs. You are welcome to include your favorite Bible verses.

Stewardship
Our 2015 Stewardship Campaign is doing very well with 263 commitments for $1,212,216 as of Monday, Nov 17.  If you have not yet done so, please prayerfully consider your support of the ministry of Jesus Christ at Hyde Park Community UMC. Make your commitment by completing a card in one of the brochures found throughout the church, or respond online at hydeparkchurch.org/stewardship.
