FOURTH OF JULY WEEKEND!

Join us as we celebrate Independence Day with some very special dishes designed to extoll one of our favorite things about America: the fact that so many cultures can come together and be a part of one community!

Our Continuing Tribute to E. B. White's
Here is New York

"I mention these merely to show that New York is peculiarly constructed to absorb almost anything that comes along (whether a thousand-foot liner out of the East or a twenty-thousand-man convention out of the West) without inflicting the event on its inhabitants; so that every event is, in a sense, optional, and the inhabitant is in the happy position of being able to choose his spectacle and so conserve his soul. In most metropolises, small and large, the choice is not often with the individual at all. He is thrown to the Lions. The Lions are overwhelming; the event is unavoidable. A cornice falls, and it hits every citizen on the head, every last man in town. I sometimes think that the only event that hits every New Yorker on the head is the annual St. Patrick's Day parade, which is fairly penetrating--the Irish are a hard race to tune out, there are 500,000 of them in residence, and they have the police force right in the family.

The quality in New York that insulates its inhabitants from life may simply weaken them as individuals. Perhaps it is healthier to live in a community where, when a cornice falls, you feel the blow; where, when the governor passes, you see at any rate his hat."

Kate Bolick

Kate Bolick's first book, SPINSTER: Making a Life of One's Own, is a New York Times bestseller. SPINSTER "is first and foremost a product of the author's long-term obsession: to reject the conventional female trajectory for something that feels a little more expansive and full of promise... The book sets forth a clear vision not just for single women, but for all women: to disregard the reigning views of how women should live, to know their own hearts and to carve out a little space for their dreams, preferably a space with 11-foot ceilings."

She is a contributing editor for The Atlantic and host of "Touchstones at The Mount," an annual literary interview series at Edith Wharton's country estate, in Lenox, MA. Her work appears in Cosmopolitan, Elle, Vogue, The New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal, among other publications. Previously, she was executive editor of Domino, and a columnist for The Boston Globe Ideas Section.

Since graduating from the Manhattan School of Music in 2010, Alison Shearer has been involved in many diverse musical projects. In addition to playing with PitchBlak, Alison is a member of FlowState, the contemporary classical ensemble led by guitarist and composer Ben Brody. In 2013 Alison formed her own jazz quintet, which has been performing all over the tri-state area. Alison plans to release her debut album in the fall of 2015.
Bob Mover has attracted generations of listeners with his versatility, emotional depth and technical command on alto, tenor and soprano saxophones. He has worked with Charles Mingus, and Chet Baker and he made his first European appearances with Baker at La Grande Parade du Jazz in (Nice, France), Jazz Festival Laren (Holland), and the Middelheim Jazz Festival (Antwerp, Belgium).

Miss Amanda's lifelong passions for music and dance inspired her to move to NYC in 2006 and pursue a life of art and performance. She began her proper study of Middle Eastern Dance while attending Oberlin College, where she became a member of the Aicha Bellydance Troupe under the direction of Adriane Dellorco. After graduation she relocated to the city that never sleeps and began performing professionally.
KEYED UP! and Moscow 57 have joined forces to bring new jazz musicians to play at Moscow 57 two Sundays each month. The 4/4-24/7 Jazz Quartet musicians rotate in and out.

Lynn released her new CD titled  "If We Only Have Love" on September 15, 2014. Since enjoying these songs with her audiences and wonderful musicians over the last couple of years at the Metropolitan Room in New York City and all over CT, she has been encouraged to share them with a larger audience.

Kristen moved to New York City from Boston with theatrical aspirations, but soon found herself enamored by the intimacy of cabaret, and soon thereafter fell 'down the rabbit hole', as she likes to say, into the world of jazz. Her soon to be released debut record, "Inside Out" is a deeply personal statement of jazz standards and inventive takes of pop songs from the 1980's, and features an original poem.
Join us for a night of a thousand laughs!
Kelley Suttenfield is an acoustic jazz vocalist whose lush resonance and graceful approach have captivated fans and critics alike. In the words of writer Carol Banks Weber (AXS.com), she "breathes her own loving, sensitive and reverent persona into every lyric."

The Lowline Needs Neighborhood Support

The Lowline is a project that is working on turning an untouched 107-year-old trolley station under Delancey St into a beautiful public gathering place. It would be the world's first underground park with solar technology. Think The High Line but underground, Lower East Side style.

The team currently has a  Kickstarter campaign running to raise
money for the solar technology needed to make this project a reality. They are about 100k short of their goal with 12 days remaining.

A GREAT NEW MOVEMENT FROM UN WOMEN

When i was a boy

Cheryl Benton, founder of The Three Tomatoes and President of the NY Chapter of the US National Committee for UN Women, first saw Ellen performing  When I Was A Boy at The Metropolitan Room in Chelsea. Inspired by Ellen's performance, Cheryl invited her to perform at the 11th Annual UN Women Luncheon in March 2012.

Today, Ellen and Cheryl join forces once again in hopes of eliminating gender inequality once and for all.  They've decided to use the great Dar Williams tune When I Was A Boy to further awareness for the cause
 and spread the word!

BORIS FISHMAN

A REPLACEMENT LIFE:
A Novel

A singularly talented writer makes his literary debut with this provocative, soulful, and sometimes hilarious story of a failed journalist asked to do the unthinkable: Forge Holocaust-restitution claims for old Russian Jews in Brooklyn, New York.

Yevgeny Gelman, grandfather of Slava Gelman, "didn't suffer in the exact way" he needs to have suffered to qualify for the restitution the German government has been paying out to Holocaust survivors. But suffer he has-as a Jew in the war; as a second-class citizen in the USSR; as an immigrant to America. So? Isn't his grandson a "writer"?

VLADIMIR ALEXANDROV
THE BLACK RUSSIAN

The Black Russian is the incredible true story of Frederick Bruce Thomas, born in 1872 to former slaves who became prosperous farmers in Mississippi. After his father was brutally murdered, Frederick left the South and worked as a waiter in Chicago and Brooklyn. Seeking greater freedom, he traveled to London, then crisscrossed Europe, and-in a highly unusual choice for a black American at the time-went to Russia.

BEN STROUSE
HEY BOY

When his parents tell him he isn't big enough to care for a shelter dog, a small boy begins his struggle to "grow up faster  than anybody!"

Over the years, as the boy learns to tie his shoes, to write homework, and to remember other people's birthdays. He  visits the shelter to spend time with his friend and dream about the future.

And in the end, his love blossoms into the strength and  courage he needs to redeem their years apart.

Bedtime stories come in all shapes and sizes, and in this one a child facing the challenge of growing up learns that love can be stronger than sadness, more enduring than time, and a key to happiness in an imperfect world.
