ummer in the USA means outdoor activities and fun, but we take it seriously!
We are just half way through our summer and we have already celebrated Barry Haarde's successful Wheels for the World ride across America to raise funds for our programs. Executive director Martha Hopewell visited our program partner in Honduras and later volunteered at Camp Ray of Hope in Romania, a grant recipient of our Smile on Summer Camp Fund.
And there's more to come! I'm heading to Nepal before the summer is over, where things are not so fun due to the recent earthquakes. But thanks to Save One Life, the Mary Gooley Center and our many friends and sponsors, over $65,000 was raised to distribute to earthquake victims to rebuild their homes.

nd Puerto Cortez on the Honduran coast.

rmen used this occasion to travel to the coastal city of La Ceiba for a presentation to the pediatric team at Hospital Atlantida. During the trip she learned that the government of Honduras approved the purchase of 50,000 units of factor to distribute among five regional hospitals--a hard won outcome from years of lobbying effort!

Happy 10th Anniversary to Camp Ray of Hope!
Camp Ray of Hope was established by Adriana Henderson, founder of S.T.A.R. Children Relief in North Carolina, in 2006. For ten years Adriana has worked tirelessly to raise funds and bring the joy of camp to children with hemophilia in her native country of Romania. Save One Life supports Camp Ray of Hope through its Smile on Summer Camp Fund, and a number of beneficiaries attend every year.

Thirty campers ranging in age from eleven to 18 arrived on July 11 for a week of comradeship and fun.
They were joined by former campers Edi Gabor and Alex Caluseru, a medical team of three doctors, two nurses, and a psychologist, numerous volunteers and executive director Martha Hopewell and her son, Timothy.
This year's theme was "Camp Ray of Hope Goes to Hollywood." Two Romanian filmmakers helped groups of campers create and act in their own films. An "academy" award ceremony was the highlight of the week, and a famous Romanian actor, Mihai Bendeac, made a surprise visit to camp on the last day.

Nepal Earthquake Relief Funds Distributed
The Nepal Hemophilia Society (NHS) commenced distribution of the funds raised by Save One Life and the Mary Gooley Hemophilia Center in Rochester, New York to 48 families who lost their homes during the devastating quakes in April and May.
Save One Life sent over $15,000 in early June, a portion of which has been given to 18 beneficiaries and their families by NHS. Each family has received $685 to date.
President Laurie Kelley plans to visit Nepal in late August to visit families and monitor implementation of the relief program.

Piles of Miles: Over $40,000 Raised!
Cyclist Barry Haarde culminated his longest ride yet--52 days and 4,300 miles--by dipping his bicycle wheel in the Atlantic Ocean in Rye, New Hampshire on July 21.
We thank all of the corporate sponsors and community members who contributed to Barry's ride and helped us exceed our fundraising goal. The funds Barry raises through Wheels for the World support our operations and help us extend assistance to more needy people with hemophilia around the world.
We also thank everyone who came out to meet Barry and organized events in cities and towns across the USA, including our "welcome back" party at president Laurie Kelley's home.
Above all, we thank Barry for his tireless dedication and passion. Through his Wheels for the World rides over the past four years, more than $150,000 has been raised for Save One Life!

The Impact of a Save One Life Scholarship
I never dreamed that, three years ago, my little initiative to build the website for Hemophilia Society Delhi (HSD) would turn into my career.
During high school I would work on small IT programming tasks as a freelancer, while taking every computer course that I could.
After graduating, due to my family's circumstances, it was impossible for me to afford a professional web designing program. I couldn't even think of asking my parents to pay for that. But HSD saw my need and, through Save One Life, helped me secure a scholarship.
Because I performed well, I got hired by an IT company just one month after starting my web designing course. I was studying and working at the same time.
One of my happiest moments was when I received my first paycheck on July 11, 2014.
My family has struggled a lot in many ways and hemophilia has been at the top of the list. I am the only son with three sisters and my mom as the head of our household. You can imagine how happy they were to see me become independent and able to support them.
Despite my fear of losing my job due to my hemophilia, I work hard and with dedication. I haven't let any obstacle stop me. I have been at my job for a year, and just got a small raise!
All that I have achieved during this time wouldn't have been possible without the support of some great people. I have no words to say thank you! This isn't only my own accomplishment, it is yours as well.
