The Parsonage Inn

November 2014

We love the autumn portrait of the Inn painted by Susan Overstreet, a well known local artist who's artwork is regularly displayed at Addison Art Gallery in Orleans.

Guests staying with us over the last couple of weeks may have noticed some slight changes.  Thankfully the breakfast menus had been prepared and I had been fully prep'd, because I have been flying solo, Jo has been back in the UK spending time with her parents and family.  Fortunately for both me and our guests, she'll be home for Thanksgiving, normal service will be resumed!

This year we are pleased to be participating in the Orleans Improvement Association annual Holiday decorating contest.   Not that we're competitive, but there is prize money involved here, so don't forget to check out our decorations on our facebook page (and like us!), we'll start in earnest after Thanksgiving.

November morning at Nauset BeachWrap up well and you can still enjoy wonderful strolls along Nauset Beach! And as we move into the Holiday periods, we have some exciting weekend special for guests looking for that short relaxing break.  We are passionate about working with local businesses, and we're thrilled to offer some great packages over the Holidays and winter period.

We're also pleased to offer free sample facial treatments from supple apothecary.  supple is a local, modern apothecary and treatment sanctuary, Jo loves their facials, and we feel these products compliment our fresh amenities perfectly - enjoy!

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, it's a precious time with friends and family, and for those staying with us next week, we're looking forward to seeing you.

Genuine Homemade Granola

Jo's "famous" home made Muesli/Granola.

Many of our guests have asked for Jo's granola recipe and after some arm twisting she agreed to reveal all.  She will vary some of the ingredients depending on the season and what's in the pantry, but here we go!

Melt in  saucepan;

  • 4 ozs of unsalted butter,
  • 1/2 cup of  brown sugar
  • 3 tbsp of our secret ingredient, Lyle's Golden Syrup (Lyle's is cane syrup from England, but available in most supermarkets here)

Meanwhile mix together in a large bowl the dry ingredients;

  • 4 cups of oats
  • Add a sprinkle of cinnamon, nutmeg and mixed spices
  • 2 cups of mixed unsalted nuts (we typically add chopped almonds, pecans and hazelnuts)
  • 1 cup of unsalted seeds (for example pumpkin and sunflowers)
  • 1 cup of dried fruits, (cranberries, raisins, dried apricots)

Pour the melted syrup on the dry ingredients and mix together.

Place the mixture on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake in the oven at 350f for around 25 minutes.  Remove from oven, allow to cool and tuck in!
