A Message From Greg

How do you define when summer is over? Some of us might

answer September 23rd. That is the official beginning of fall.

Others may say after Labor Day, the unofficial end of summer.

Still others, and most of them would be students and teachers,

would answer early August. Our local school systems and

colleges are opening their doors soon and welcoming students back

to school thus ending their 'summer.' Keep our community's

schools, students, and teachers in your prayers as the new school

year begins. Our prayer and hope is that it will be safe and

productive year for everyone.  As summer draws to a close, however that closure is defined, our church is beginning to look toward the fall and all the activity and

opportunity it will bring.  As your routine changes with the change in seasons keep the church in your prayers and make the church's ministry part of your plans. God Bless You! See you Sunday!

Peace,

Greg

Scripture of the Month:  1 Joh: 20
Scripture of the Month

Scripture:  John 11: 25-26

Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life.  He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.  Do you believe this?"

Our Church's program year began on July 1st.  This event goes unnoticed by most of us, unless you are in tune to the Church's operations or recently appointed to a new committee or ministry and your term is beginning.   I am announcing that Mike Rubesch has assumed the chair of the Stewardship & Finance Committee, and that Lytta Turner begins serving as Board Secretary.  Another item of note, is that Letcher and Paula Floyd have accepted a temporary position as co-chairs of the Property Committee while Don Lindstrom is taking a short-term leave from this position.  I thank all of these people for their willingness to serve our Church, and I am confident that they will do well in these important roles.

As we start our new program year, one important item to note is that the various ministries need to begin considering their budget plans for 2016.  We seem to be having a good year financially, and on behalf of the Board, I wish to thank everyone for their continuing pledge of support to our ministries and missions, as well as thanking the ministry chairs for living within our budgetary constrains for 2015.   The Stewardship and Finance Committee will soon be requesting their budget plans so that a draft 2016 budget can be presented at the September Board Meeting.  If you are a Ministry Chair or a member of a ministry that has a budget, please begin consideration of your financial needs and plans for the next year.

Jim Rybka, Chair of the Board

Thank You

Thank you for the donation to the Surf Center.  Will be put to good use.   Sincerely, KJ Nutt

Thank you for the all the condolence cards I received for the passing of my father. Your thoughtfulness is very appreciated. Don Lindstrom

Many thanks for the prayers, cards and acts of kindness I have received. It is very uplifting to have such support. Cindy Lindstrom

A big thank you to all of you who kept us in your prayers, sent cards and visited.  They all helped and I am at home progressing very well. In addition, the warm and comfortable prayer shawl is much appreciated.

Vern and I want to express our appreciation and love for all of you at First Christian Church.   We wintered in Arizona and found a house to call "ours" in Chandler, Arizona.  We will be moving there, but will come back to visit several times throughout the year.   We will cherish all the wonderful memories with our church family and your unconditional love for us.   We hope you will keep in touch and are welcome to come visit us at our new home.  Our new address will be: 2025 E. County Down Dr. Chandler, AZ 85249
God Bless all of you!   Love, Vern & Janet Rodgers

Rev. Greg & Friends,
I want to thank you for all the prayers and visits. Those prayers helped me with getting well.  So nice to see all of you again.   God Bless, Lois Roberts

Dear Church Family,
Thank you for being there for me and watching me grow up.     Sam Hilgediek

CAMP BARBEE 2015!
The youth would like to thank EVERYONE who supported them financially, with prayers and with kind words.  They feel blessed and loved to have so much support.  When I picked them up from camp the Director said, "You have great kids.  They are kind, helpful and filled with the Spirit."  I don't think I can add anything more to that!   Michelle
(They will be sharing their experience on Aug. 16th at both downtown services.)

Thank you to Porter Paints and Shawn Findley for the painting from Property Committee

Thank you to everyone who helped with Worship In The Streets!  Paula Floyd

Community Lunch
Our next Sunday to serve the Community Lunch will be August 16th at noon.  It would be very nice to have some new faces help with this important mission project.  It is very simple.  Sue Dismore will prepare the lunch.  We need 6 people to help set up the room at LUM, (located at 420 N. 4th St.) serve the meal and clean up after.  We are usually out by 1:30pm.  If you have any questions, please call Sue 474-4720 or Michelle 490-9297.

There are several books missing from the Library.  If you have borrowed one could you please return it if you are finished.  Thank you! Ruby & Rachel

Seeker's Sunday School Class

On Sunday, August 9th, at our usual starting time of 9:05ish (AM) in room 203.5 (actually 203 and 204) the Seekers Class will watch a DVD produced  by Frontline and broadcast on PBS called "From Jesus to Christ- The First Christians".  Here is a brief overview from the cover of the DVD-  "Frontline explores the life of Jesus and the movement he started, challenging familiar assumptions and conventional notions about the origins of Christianity.   Drawing upon new and sometimes controversial historical evidence and interviews with the nation's leading New Testament scholars, the series transports the viewer back two thousand years to the time and place where Jesus once lived and preached.  The film traces Jesus' life, focusing on the events that occurred after he died and on his first followers, the men women whose belief, conviction , and martyrdom created a major movement that transformed the Roman Empire in the space of only three hundred years."  Sounds exciting- hopefully, you'll agree.  This series is about 4 hours long- so each Sunday we will spend about 30 minutes to view the video and then discuss what we have seen and learned.  I'm sure the information provided and the information we will share in our discussion will be worth the price of admission- which is free!!

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Jim or Jan Rybka or Gary Henriott and remember- all are welcomed to join our little band of fellow travelers!!

Gary
