Dear Members of Congregation Shir Libeynu,

Our ninth Annual General Meeting (AGM) is being held on  Sunday, November 29th . The AGM is taking place in Room 318  at the Miles Nadal Jewish Community Centre (750 Spadina Avenue at Bloor and Spadina).

Board Members Stepping Down this Year:

After five years on our board as treasurer, Zev Frishman has decided to step down, which will allow him to spend more time with his grandchildren.  Zev has been instrumental in helping our shul grow steadily while maintaining a fiscally sound course.  He has had an excellent grasp of our finances and has always kept a clear eye on our programming and other costs, balancing the diverse needs of the community with skill and compassion. Zev has taken his responsibilities as our financial guardian very seriously, and he could also be counted on for wit and insight during our board discussions.  He helped at many kiddishes and at High Holy Day services over the years, and he and his wife, Yona, have hosted plenty of board meetings in their home.  He has also been a member of our choir, something we hope he will dip into again now that he is free from board duties.  We thank Zev for his years of dedication to our shul.

Jessica Miller is also leaving the board this year, having served for the past three years, two of them as vice president/secretary  Jessica was a warm and efficient presence at many Shabbat services, where she helped with kiddish preparation and greeting members, and she has been a long-time member of our Pride committee as well. She was part of a small committee that advised the communications coordinator on the new website build. Jessica is a favourite volunteer at the children's program both at Shabbat services and at our simchas, and has represented the shul at many Downtown Jewish Community Council meetings.  She has worked consistently to ensure that our community has maintained its equity and affordability principles, and we have often turned to her for wise-beyond-her-years advice on younger members of our congregation.  We thank Jessica for her service to the board, and wish her well in her new venture as the creator and owner of Space Logix, a residential and home office organizing business.

Even before she was a board member, Amy Herskowitz participated as a dedicated volunteer at our Pride events. While on the board she helped organize the Heart to Heart events, and tried to steer us into the 21st century with some novel online planning schemes.

Michelle Gewurtz has been our High Holy Days art show coordinator for two years now, using her expertise in art curating to beautify the space at First Unitarian.  She has also helped us at some of our past HEW events. Michelle relocated temporarily to Ottawa last spring. We look forward to having her back in Toronto.

We thank Amy and Michelle for their year of service each on the board.
