Compost Pick Up Begins - The pick up of compost will begin on
Monday, March 30 and will run until November 28.
Compost is garden waste, grass clippings, hay/straw, leaves, pruning debris, bushes/shrubs and tree branches. The compost program does not accept animal waste, dirt, food scraps, pumpkins, roots/root balls, sod, stumps, vines or any landscaping material (gravel, garden wall, stone, mulch, wood chips etc.).
Branches are to be cut down to 4 ft. or less and should be no larger than 3 in. in diameter. Branches should be put into small bundles and tied with rope or twine. You may put out up to 10 bundles a week.
You may use compost bags or garbage cans for compost disposal. The limit for compost collection is ten (10) compost bags or five (5) garbage cans, with no bag or can weighing more than 50 lbs. We DO NOT accept compost in cardboard boxes or plastic garbage bags.
Compost is picked up the same day as regular trash. A separate truck picks up compost. Your compost should be separated from your regular household trash by 4 ft. Mixed compost and trash will not be picked up.

Mornings with the Mayor - In an ongoing effort to hear from you, Mayor William R. Wild is hosting his second Mornings with the Mayor beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 31. "Mornings with the Mayor" is your opportunity to bring up matters of importance to you regarding City services or programs and events. All concerns will be heard and if you've a way to improve services or an idea for a new program or activity, let Mayor Wild know. Mornings with the Mayor is being held at City Hall, 36300 Warren Road. Coffee and light refreshments will be served during this one hour event. Join Mayor Wild in the Grand Ballroom and please bring your ideas on how, by working together, we can improve the community.
City Offices Closed for Good Friday - All City Offices will be closed in observance of Good Friday on Friday, April 3. This includes the 18th District Court. The William P. Faust Westland Public Library will be open on Friday, but closed on Saturday, April 4 and Sunday, April 5. Garbage and recycling pick up will not be affected.
Marshmallow Drop - A blizzard of 20,000 marshmallows will fill the sky as they tumble from the Easter Bunny's helicopter. Bring your basket and prepare to grab some marshmallows! The Marshmallow Drop will take place on Friday, April 3, at 11:00 a.m. at Nankin Mills Park in Westland.
Friday Night Glow Skate - The Mike Modano Ice Arena has re-opened for the season and Friday Night Glow Skate is back. Glow skate will run every Friday from 7:00 p.m. to 9:20 p.m. and will cost $4 for kids and $5 for adults for residents. The cost is 50 cents more for non-resident. Glow in the dark accessories will be available for purchase in the pro shop and skates are available to rent. The Ice Arena is located at 6210 Wildwood.
