City adopts new Complete Streets policystreets

Mayor Kriseman signed a new Administrative Policy to implement Complete Streets in St. Petersburg.

Complete Streets are those that are planned, designed, operated, and maintained so that people of all ages and physical and economic abilities can safely and comfortably move around in the community; they provide the right accommodation for the land use context.

Implementing Complete Streets in St. Petersburg, with its principles of inclusivity, will allow the City to further achieve its status as a city of opportunity where the sun shines on all who come to live, work and play.

The policy contains five key points that outline the City's efforts going forward to provide an inclusive transportation network, one of which calls for the development of a Complete Streets Implementation Plan. This Implementation Plan will be developed through a considerable public engagement process that considers how we will continue to move people in and around St. Petersburg in a variety of transportation modes.

It will also serve as an update to the City's award-winning CityTrails Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan that was adopted in 2003. It has been through the implementation of the CityTrails Plan that St. Petersburg has been recognized both as a Bicycle Friendly Community and Florida's Best Walking City.

Chief's Creole Cafe celebrates one year anniversary chiefs

On Friday, October 30th, community and business leaders joined with Elihu and Carolyn Brayboy as they celebrated the one year anniversary of Chief's Creole Cafe with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

The Brayboys believed that the property, located at 22th Street South and 9th Avenue South, would be ideal for a restaurant. Interest was low, so they decided to take the project on themselves to clean up the property and open a destination restaurant located in the heart of the Deuces.

Countless long hours were put into the launch of this project by the Brayboys. They worked with the Greenhouse, taking every applicable workshop and training, worked with a mentor, participated as a business partner in the Eckerd Internship Project, and met with staff frequently to help better prepare themselves for operating their newest business. They accessed capital for this project through Greenhouse partner, the Tampa Bay Black Business Investment Corporation.

We applaud the Brayboys for their vision and dedication. We celebrate with them as they mark one year of Chief's Creole Cafe. Congratulations Elihu and Carolyn!
