How many PPE challenges are not addressed in the NFPA 70E standard? We’ve had many questions come through about what PPE to wear in specific job settings.  These jobs range from work at nuclear facilities to food and chemical processing plants and even "clean" rooms.  One of the challenges that workers face while working in these locations is that the PPE needs are not specifically discussed within the NFPA 70E.. Read More...
There have been flame-resistant and arc rated reflective trims on the market for many years, but the most common ones were sew-on trims which made garments bulky.  While these were used for firefighters, the heat-sealed trims were not flame-resistant other than “taking on the characteristics...  Read More...
ELECTRICAL EXPLOSION AT PRIEST RAPIDS DAM, WASHINGTON
Six utility workers were injured in an electrical explosion at the Priest Rapids Dam in Washington State on Thursday. All six were admitted to a Seattle medical center. One worker was kept overnight and  released the next morning. The other five workers remain in the medical center with...

Q: When it comes to work on energized equipment, who (site owner, contractor, or contractor employee) is required to know when it is necessary to de-energize when outside contractors are used? A: The short answer is that the owner of the equipment takes on the liability of the equipment. But the...  Read More...

On Thursday morning, August 20, two employees of Oak Mountain High School were planning on doing maintenance work on parking lot lights.
When they flipped a 277V breaker, an arc flash occurred. Due to the arc flash, one worker suffered injuries on his face; the other received 2nd degree burns. Neither worker had PPE on, and they had not had previous training on electrical safety. One of e-Hazard’s Train the Trainer graduates, Randy Glaze, was able to conduct e-Hazard’s Low Voltage electrical safety class to about 30 Shelby County employees soon after the incident...  Read More...
IEEE IAS Electrical Safety Workshop
If you would like to spend four days of intense interaction with 500 people who share a passion for preventing electrical injuries in the workplace, I urge you to join me in Jacksonville, Florida for our 23rd annual IEEE IAS Electrical Safety Workshop.

By attending the workshop, you will join the most influential people in the industry where experts present the latest in electrical safety technology and practices. Attendees have the opportunity to learn the latest on the development and implementation of electrical safety standards, network with electrical safety experts and discuss solutions with industry-leading suppliers of products and services related to electrical safety.

The workshop is an international event with participants from countries around the world, all with the common goal of changing the culture of electrical safety.

Our Mission

  • Accelerate application of breakthrough improvements in human factors, technology, and managing systems that reduce risk of electrical injuries
  • Stimulate innovation in overcoming barriers
  • Change and advance the electrical safety culture to enable sustainable improvements in prevention of electrical accidents and injuries

This year’s event will be held at the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront in Jacksonville, Florida, March 8 through 12, 2016.

I am confident that your participation will be of great value not only to your organization but also to our electrical safety community. I look forward to seeing you at ESW 2016, the 2016 IEEE IAS Electrical Safety Workshop.

Sincerely,
Dennis J. Hill, P.E.

LOW VOLTAGE CLASSES
Used by many NFPA 70E committee members and over 900 trainers, our low voltage training provides you with extensive knowledge of the dangers and recommended safe behaviors for those who work around electrical hazards.
HIGH VOLTAGE CLASSES
Working on or around 1 to 69kV industrial high voltage distribution systems requires qualification. In this training, attendees learn what it means to be HV qualified and which electrical tasks can only be performed by a qualified person.
