Worship Series - The Gospel According to Dr. Seuss

Christmas in July!

MessageRev. LeeAnn Inman
"The Gospel According to Dr. Seuss- How the Grinch Stole Christmas: Love Changes Everything"

Synopsis: We lash out in response to the people and events that scar us. We can become embittered, hard-hearted, jealous, and cold. We hurt other people to mask our own pain. But the love of Jesus changes all that.  It overrules skepticism and overpowers cynicism, and it frees us for the gifts of grace and for embracing lives of compassion and companionship. When we welcome the Good News, our lives are changed forever, and we are strengthened for good.

Scripture: Isaiah 60:1-5, 19

Heat got you down? Come be refreshed and celebrate "Christmas in July" on Sunday, July 26th (services at 8:15, 9:30 & 11:00 a.m.) We'll cool off with popsicles on the church Portico, enjoy holiday music and decorations, yummy treats (bring your favorite Christmas cookies to share) and hold a special Christmas in July edition of our GIFT SHARE event. Simply bring in new or gently used gifts to donate (no money required) and place them on the tables located on the church portico. Everyone is then welcome to "shop" in between worship services.

CHRISTMAS IN JULY GIFT GIVING WITH A PURPOSE:

In addition to our GIFT SHARE event on Sunday, we'll also have 2 additional opportunities to give to the greater community. Reading and Gaming Supplies for Local Nursing Homes: Bring in the following new or very gently used items, and we will distribute them to the residents of local nursing homes:

Dominos | Uno | Scrabble | Children's puzzles| Bingo Chips | Prizes for Bingo winners | Books (large print and novels are favorites) | Magazines and puzzle books of any kind | Mail order catalogues for residents to buy inexpensive presents from | Beads for bracelet making (need bigger holes for those with vision challenges)

And we'd like to challenge everyone to bring in canned goods or dried food to support our Meals Assistance Program (M.A.P.), which provides supplementary food to local families in need.  If you can't be here on July 26th, feel free to bring Nursing Home donations the week before or after, and, of course, you can bring canned or dry food in for M.A.P. anytime!

Life Line Screening at Peace - August 10th

What You Don't Know Can Hurt You! If you are age 21-80 you can learn your risk for developing 6 different chronic diseases. Nearly $3 out of every $4 spent on healthcare is for treatment of chronic disease. Better lifestyle habits can help prevent 80% of heart disease and 90% of type 2 diabetes!  The 6 for Life Health Assessment measures your risk of developing 6 chronic diseases, including heart disease, congestive heart failure, stroke, diabetes, COPD and lung cancer.  A customized report will determine which risk factors contribute most to your disease risk and are within your control to change.  Finger-stick blood tests along with biometric measurements are included with this assessment.

Peace will be hosting a Life Line Screening preventive health event on Monday, August 10, 2015. Protect your health by registering today for the 6 for Life Health Assessment for only $79. Call 1-888-653-6441 or visit www.lifelinescreening.com/community-partners to schedule your appointment.

Back to School Gift Card Drive

Our annual Peace School Supply Gift Card Drive is back!  As a new school year is quickly approaching, we again have the opportunity to bless many young people and their parents in this very tangible way.  Because supply lists vary so greatly from school to school, we are once again collecting gift cards and monetary donations.  We will distribute the gift cards to families with children associated with our congregation, our Meals Assistance Program, as well as the folks at H.O.M.E. in Kissimmee.  Our partnership with H.O.M.E. means we will be helping them again this year with back-to-school shoes, and we will use proceeds from the gift card drive to support that ministry.  If you bring in actual gift cards, please bring in as many as you want to contribute, but keep the denominations lower, like $10 to $20 and from major retailers like Target and Wal-Mart.  Help give a child a great start to the new school year!  Thank you for your support!

Prayer Shawl Ministry Resumes

Our Peace Prayer Shawl Ministry is resuming!  Anyone who likes to knit or crochet is invited to join this ministry. Prayer shawls are given to people who are ill or hospitalized, suffering chronic conditions, undergoing chemotherapy, or simply in need of comfort and prayer.  For more details, please contact Rev. Bob Schall, 407-239-8668.

According to Janet Bristow and Victoria Galo, the founders of Prayer Shawl Ministries, "the making of a prayer shawl is a spiritual practice which embodies our thoughts and prayers for the receiver.  It is a gift freely given with no strings attached.  Made in prayer, as prayer, for prayer, the shawls are passed on hand-to-hand and heart-to-heart."
