Sparky and Talking Tree
Impacting Young Students

Teaching some of the youngest students about the world in which they live is one of KALB's favorite things to do.  We have programs for every age group; however, taking Sparky to meet the little ones is so much fun.

We also know that helping these children develop an understanding of the natural world and the role humans play is an investment in the health of this community.

Sparky, our big yellow mascot, is a hands-down favorite with the kids.  Sparky doesn't talk, but he makes sure the children understand how much he hates litter!  Sparky always has an adult with him to tell the children with words why litter is so dangerous to our environment.

When the task is to teach children about the wonder of trees, it's time for the Talking Tree to make a visit.  Miss Tree shares all of the amazing things that trees provide for us:  oxygen to breathe, fruit and nuts to eat, shelter for animals, roots to hold soil in place, shade, wood for building things, pollution control, and so much more!

These children might be young, but they understand the lessons.  Parents and teachers frequently tell us about students that talk about these visits and the lessons they've learned, even after months have gone by!

KALB has programs geared toward any age group from pre-school to adult.  If you would like Sparky, the Talking Tree, or any other presentation, please send us a message or give us a call - 256-233-8000.

 Community Garden
Continues to Provide Produce to LCCI

Tomatoes, peppers, okra, squash, zucchini, and eggplant, oh my!

Thanks to the many volunteers that have helped to keep the gardens watered through the sweltering temperatures, produce is being harvested and taken to the LCCI food pantry.  All produce makes its way to our neighbors finding themselves in need of help.

KALB continues to seek volunteers willing to adopt the gardens for one week during the rest of July and all of August.
Volunteers would agree to give the gardens a deep watering 2-3 times through the week (depending on rain amounts).

All hoses and other equipment are provided.  Sprinklers can be set up and turned on while other areas are watered using spray nozzles.  Volunteers may also set up the sprinklers and leave, then return and move the sprinklers to other locations.  That way volunteers won't have to stay at the gardens for long periods of time.
If you are interested in volunteering for the task of watering the gardens for one week (or more) over the summer, you may sign up through the following link.

KALB staff will be available to answer any questions and to give you the information you needs to obtain the equipment.

Prizes and Sponsorships Sought

KALB is gearing up for our fundraising season.  The Duck & Run 5K and the Wacky Quacky Ducky Derby are our biggest and most important fundraisers outside of memberships.

KALB is very pleased to announce that this year's DIAMOND DUCK SPONSOR for the Wacky Quacky Ducky Derby is the Limestone Farmer's Cooperative!

As a non-profit, we are charged with raising a large portion of our funds through various fundraisers.  The Duck & Run 5K Race and the Wacky Quacky Ducky Derby are KALB's two most important.  We count on community participation through duck

adoptions and 5K participation; however, we could not put on these events without the generous support of local businesses and individuals.

There are still prize sponsorships available for the Wacky Quacky Ducky Derby with a suggested value of $50 to $100 or more.  These donations will be prizes for Derby winners.

KALB is so very grateful to all of our current and

previous sponsors!  We understand that local businesses are tugged at from every direction.

We also know that the work we do in this community benefits everyone now and into the

future.

If you would like more information on sponsorship opportunities, call us at 256-233-8000 soon so you can benefit from advertising.

We are on a race to the finish line for the future of our local environment.
