Greetings Nordic People! As Autumn comes and goes we prepare for the fun and busy times ahead. Here at Great Glen Trails, in the shadow of New Hampshire's Mt. Washington we are making lists of trail chores, performing annual building maintenance and prepping the Outfitters shop for an early November opening and Locals Night.

We've installed a super efficient pellet-boiler to heat the base lodge in our never-ending effort to run a "Greener" business. We were named host for the Bill Koch Festival in March, added a new rental fleet and offer free season passes for all children of adult passholders.

 

Getting the word out to our guests and prospective guests continues to be a high priority. So we're installing iPads in the lodge with incentives for folks to sign-in with email addresses that we'll use to communicate with them.

 

Discounted Framed fat bikes available for all CCSAA members. We are trying to organize a group buy of the popular Minnesota-based fat bike distributor "Framed" for the beginning of November. About a third of the people that answered the survey a couple weeks ago, expressed interest in this money saving/making opportunity. Last month I was so hopeful talking about new more efficient software and operating platforms for running the CCSAA office. This month I'm frustrated with the slow process of learning new systems, transferring records from one program to another, technology glitches (Seriously to use a wildly sophisticated bluetooth headset an old-school corded phone was needed and it took 3 phones to get one that actually functioned....corded phones are cheap and apparently not so good.), and both the usual and unusual life interruptions (My new house needed a new drilled well to replace its ancient contaminated dug well. After 580' of drilling through shale, hydrofracking was necessary to get water. Let's not even discuss how much over budget my clean water cost.). However, all this is just a temporary point in time and once the dust settles the changes will be a step forward.

Meanwhile on the very positive side it's exciting to have the Board of Directors directly involved in areas that've been primarily managed by me. The Eastern Meeting and Conference are prime examples. The agendas are now created by Nordic Directors for Nordic Directors. The presentations speak directly to what you care about, the hot-button topics that are driving your business. The Annual Conference will focus on grooming and hospitality. The Eastern Meeting has an exciting blend of national program updates; specifics on getting the most from embracing ski racing at your Center; and creating a Nordic-themed community. Oh, and we get to take fat bikes for a ride first thing in the morning....how fun is that!
