Peter's Tour Diary
Peter White at the Granada Theatre Photo by Bill Ellison

Hi everybody-

After a long absence I finally got my favorite guitar back- the Blue Beauty! Master luthier and Blue Beauty maker Paul McGill made some repairs and added some lights to the neck, similar to my White guitar. Why? It helps me play in the dark, ha ha!

I immediately took Blue to Cleveland Ohio where I played an all star show which included Maysa, Nick Colionne, Brian Simpson, Euge Groove and Kim Waters. Brian Culbertson and his band also performed that night so there was a lot of talent onstage! Soon after my Cleveland show I went to Albuquerque for my first concert in about 12 years there where I performed in front of two very large cacti. I only found out later that the saguaro cactus is not found in New Mexico and what I saw were just stage props, but great looking stage props nonetheless!

The following week I was pleased to have some co-headlining shows with my old friend Richard Elliot on the East Coast, firstly on the New York Smooth Cruise and then by charter jet to Washington D.C. to play a sold out show at the legendary Birchmere Music Hall in Alexandria Virginia. It's been about 20 years since I've traveled on a private jet and the trip was made even more memorable when Richard himself handed out snacks mid-flight!

After the East Coast shows with Richard it was off to Texas to play with Euge Groove in what we call the Euge/Peter show. Starting at the One World Theatre just outside Austin Texas we then moved on to Dosey Doe, a club just outside of Houston which is really a 165 year old big wooden barn that was moved from Kentucky and reassembled in The Woodlands, Texas! I then traveled on to Dallas to play the Granada Theatre with my band together with local sax-man Keith Anderson who did a great job playing my show for only the second time!

The next day I found out that Euge was taken ill- he had complained about not feeling well during our shows together but soldiered on regardless. He was later diagnosed with perforated diverticulitis which had him hospitalized for a few days and he was still under doctor's orders to stay home for the Oakland Jazz Festival the following weekend. It was supposed to be a Euge/Peter show but I went on and did my own set, ably assisted by Vincent Ingala on saxophone. Euge made a full recovery and was able to join me in Kettering Ohio a week later to play the Fraze Pavilion opening up for Dave Koz, Rick Braun and Kenny Lattimore. Another great array of talent on one stage! Dave, Rick and Kenny brought me up and the end of their show and we all played "Grazin in the Grass" together. It was indeed an honor to be included in such a fantastic lineup and the first time I have ever shared the stage with Kenny, even though we recorded a song together on my first Christmas CD in 1997!

Oh, I almost forgot to mention my appearance in San Antonio, Texas at the Balcones Heights Festival, where I played a free outdoor show as part of the jazz series there. Thanks to local Smooth Jazz DJ David Munoz for inviting me to be a part of it. I played with a local band and although we only had limited rehearsal time they all performed wonderfully. More shows are coming in all the time so check my tour schedule below for a city near you -

All my best to you all!

From Classical Gas to Don Quixote
Peter White and Lenny Castro

Mason Williams' song "Classical Gas" is one of the top all-time instrumental compositions of all time and was a huge inspiration for Peter's song "Don Quixote's Final Quest". Listen to Peter talk more about it in this performance below from The Cotton Club Tokyo this past February.

Peter was joined that night by famed percussionist Lenny Castro who happened to be in the audience. Lenny has played with Toto, Joe Bonamassa, Stevie Wonder, Joe Sample and a list of artists and bands too long to mention, and also on a number of Peter's albums including Reflections, Caravan of Dreams, Perfect Moment and Glow.
