New Goodwill Store in Charlottesville Opening in August

A Tentative Opening Date of August 26th Has Been Scheduled


Goodwill is excited to announce the opening of its newest store. The store, which will be the 39th retail location for the organization, will be located in Charlottesville at the intersection of Avon Street Extended and Mill Creek Drive in the Food Lion shopping center. The Grand Opening is tentatively scheduled to take place on Wednesday, August 26th with a brief "Tie Cutting" ceremony at 8:45am. Goodwill and Kristian Bush Partner to "Give It Away"
Partnership Encourages People to Become Job Creators by Donating What They No Longer Need

Goodwill Industries International and Kristian Bush, of Platinum-selling country duo Sugarland, are partnering to raise awareness of Goodwill's mission. It's a partnership inspired by the message of Bush's debut solo single, the Top 40-and-climbing hit "Trailer Hitch," which reminds us that we collect so many things that we don't need, and we can't take it with us when we go... so why not "give it away"?  Click here to learn more about the partnership and view the toe-tapping, feel good video Kristian produced for Goodwill.

 



Goodwill to Operate Additional Programs in Lynchburg
Region 2000 Workforce Development Board Awards Grant to Goodwill

Goodwill Industries of the Valleys has been awarded, by the Region 2000 Workforce Development Board, a contract to provide services to youth, adults, and dislocated workers through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) programs. Goodwill will operate the Region 2000 Workforce Center in Lynchburg and will be establishing a network of satellite centers and access points throughout the region.  Goodwill currently operates these programs for individuals in other areas of the Commonwealth including Charlottesville, and the Shenandoah, and New River Valleys.   Click here for more information on WIOA programs in Lynchburg.



Area Youth Graduate from Project SEARCH
Students in Roanoke and Tazewell Benefit from the Program

This year the Project SEARCH class celebrated graduations in Roanoke and in Tazewell. Bruce Phipps Named Recipient of Prestigious Kenneth K. King Award

When Bruce Phipps took the helm of Goodwill Industries of the Valleys in 2004, the agency served fewer than 2,300 people per year. Today, the organization is serving thousands annually. For his vision and leadership over a 40-year career with Goodwill, Phipps was presented with the 2015 Kenneth K. King Outstanding Management Award for Executive Excellence, the most prestigious executive award bestowed by Goodwill Industries International.  Click here to continue reading.

Mobile Market Unveiled

Goodwill, working in collaboration with the Freedom First Credit Union, has agreed to help sponsor and new Mobile Market venture of local non-profit LEAP (Local Environmental Agriculture Project). The idea is simple; "bring the market to the customer".  LEAP's Mobile Market makes weekly stops, during the growing season, to bring fresh, healthy, and local foods to neighborhoods in Roanoke that do not have access to nearby sources of fresh foods.   Click here to continue reading.
