Message from the Executive Director

We have faced quite a year of challenges as a nation when it comes to race relations, racial justice, and the work of integration. Just as we were coming to understand the deeply divisive effects of residential segregation in places like Ferguson and Baltimore, we were witness to the tragedy of the Charleston church murders. The need for inter-group understanding, for building meaningful relationships across racial lines, and for coming to terms with persistent forms of racism, was put in high relief.

Join us for this 15th Annual MLK Celebration. Michelle Miller,
award-winning CBS News Correspondent
and resident of South Orange, is the keynote speaker. Ms. Miller provided extensive coverage of the unrest in Ferguson, Missouri following the shooting death of Michael Brown, of hurricanes Sandy, Irene and Katrina, as well as many civil rights-related stories. The observance also includes representative readings from a variety of faith perspectives, jazz music, Voices in Harmony, and the CHS Special Dance Company.

Please join the Community Coalition on Race and 1000 other families in celebrating Dr. King's birthday and his message of peace and justice by displaying luminaries on the evening of his birthday, Monday January 18th, 2015. Two Towns in Harmony - The Remix

The
Two Towns in Harmony-The Remix concert that was held on November 14th as part of our
Integration through the Arts programming for 2015 was an amazing tribute to the original 2005 Two Towns in Harmony concert that featured a specially commissioned piece by composer Janet Albright. Albright's 'A Prayer for Peace' was especially moving in light of the tragic events in Paris.
