Howard County Police and HC DrugFree Are Pleased to Announce Largest Collection of Meds to Date

On Saturday, October 26, 2013 Howard County collected 862 pounds of medication at the 10 Drug Take Back Day sites located throughout the county which were staffed by Howard County Police officers. This is the largest single amount that Howard County has collected since the inception of the national event. HC DrugFree's office served as one of the sites where residents could drop off unwanted or expired prescription or over the counter medications. Thanks to a partnership with Howard County General Hospital, HC DrugFree's office was the only site authorized to accept needles and syringes. From 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM residents dropped off enough medication at the HC DrugFree site to fill 4 large plastic bags and enough syringes and needles to fill 3 large boxes.

Proove Biosciences, Inc., a corporate sponsor of HC DrugFree, purchased Mind Your Meds t-shirts for HC DrugFree's Teen Advisory Council to wear during the event. Three times as many people are addicted to prescription narcotics than all illegal narcotics combined. Two-thirds of teens who abuse prescription medication are getting them from friends, family and acquaintances.
