Join Our Community Advisory Board!

Have you received care at Howard Brown Health Center (HBHC) in the past two years? Are you interested in providing crucial feedback about HBHC's programs and services? Are you committed to sharing your wisdom and experiences with us?

If you answered "yes," our Community Advisory Board (CAB) may be for you!

The CAB meets once a month, giving ongoing consumer feedback on the design and delivery of HBHC's many programs. In the past year, the CAB has given feedback on numerous aspects of the agency to help improve our programs.  Most important, being a CAB board member allows HBHC patients to have their voices heard when it comes to the decision-making process in hopes of making the patient and client experience more effective and affirming.

"We want to invite people that take part in HBHC programming--including The Broadway Youth Center--who feel that their voices often get left out in decision-making at health-focused organizations, especially with regard to race, ability, immigration status, class, sexual orientation, gender identity, HIV status and age," said Jesse Gauger-Kiraly, the CAB's Chair.

In order to be eligible, CAB applicants MUST have received services from HBHC within the past two years. Other CAB membership requirements include:
  • Attend at least 9 of the 12 CAB meetings each year
  • Read information sent to the CAB to prepare for meetings
  • Provide thoughtful feedback at meetings
  • Promote HBHC in the community
  • Make suggestions about what you think the community needs
  • Participate in CAB photos for the HBHC website, annual report and other materials

Four Questions For...Rich Scinteie, CAB Member

Howard Brown Health Center's CAB members come from all walks of life and have their own unique personal experiences that shape their incredible contributions to our agency. One such CAB member is Rich Scinteie, who shares why being a CAB member is so important to the lives in our community.

How and why did you become part of the CAB?

I found out about the CAB online and wanted to become part of it because HBHC was such an important place for my health and wellness as a young gay man. I thought it would be an incredible opportunity to be a part of the organization, help improve services for the community, learn more about the broader LGBTQ community and really just give back.

What's the most rewarding aspect of being a member of the CAB?

I'm truly inspired by the people I work with. They are all incredibly talented and passionate about the issues that impact our community. Plus, it's really rewarding to see that HBHC takes our feedback seriously and implements many of our suggestions.

Why is the CAB so important?

Because the CAB is a valued part of HBHC and has access to HBHC's leaders, CAB members have a unique and invaluable opportunity to have their suggestions heard and implemented, which directly impacts the health and lives of HBHC patients.

What are you all looking for in potential CAB applicants?

The CAB is dedicated to helping improve the health and well-being of the LGBTQ community, and because the community and its needs are incredibly diverse, we welcome applications from diverse individuals with unique perspectives. The CAB is a collaborative group where all opinions are valued, and we encourage applications from communicative team players.
