Wheeling Auto Club

Gilbert S. Bachmann
October 22, 1918 - November 10, 2014
A scholarship fund is being established for the benefit of students at the Linsly School in memory of Gilbert S. Bachmann, a long-time board member of the Wheeling Auto Club. Mr. Bachmann had foresight long ago which would eventually prove to be beneficial for the Wheeling Auto Club and its now successful grantmaking program and invested assets. Since 2008, when the fund came to the Community Foundation, the Wheeling Auto Club has awarded over $210,000 in grants to local organizations.

In addition to the above scholarship, organizations listed below recently received awards from The Wheeling Auto Club Fund.

Marshall County Historical Society
Oglebay Foundation
Wheeling Country Day School
Wheeling Lions Club Charities
Youth Services System
Rice Energy Tour
Rice Energy and CFOV facilitated a tour of Rice Energy headquarters in Canonsburg and a visit to two oil pads for Belmont County landowners and community leaders. The group learned about the oil and gas industry as well as how the well pads operate and the benefits to the surrounding communities. Following the tour was a lunch where the group learned about the Smith-Goshen Rice Enrichment Fund. The fund was created by a group of Belmont County landowners in conjunction with Rice Energy to give back to their community with grants to nonprofit organizations in or serving Belmont County. Special thanks to Kimberly Price and Brittani Webb for organizing this event and to Rice Energy for their commitment to their landowners and CFOV.
National Community Foundation Week
National Community Foundation week is celebrated among over 700 community foundations from November 12-18. For over 25 years, the effort has raised awareness about philanthropy and innovative efforts to address civic and economic challenges. Community Foundations have a collaborative approach to working with donors, nonprofits, and community leaders to produce lasting results for the betterment of the areas they serve.

Since 1972, the Community Foundation for the Ohio Valley has connected donors who care with causes that matter by making grants to organizations working to improve the quality of life in the Upper Ohio Valley.  With assets of more than $34 million, the Foundation assisted in making more than $1,000,000 in grants last year.  From strengthening community schools and assisting local arts programs, to building health centers and helping lives affected by violence or natural disasters, the Foundation continues to enhance our region.  To learn more, visit the Foundation online at www.cfov.org.
