Register Now! Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) Webinar

Please join us for a webinar on the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), hosted by CDE, CFPA, CSBA, CBPP, FRAC, and Partnership for Children and Youth, and hear from school districts that have successfully implemented the provision in the 2014-2015 school year. CEP allows high-poverty schools to offer breakfast and lunch at no charge to all students and eliminate school meal applications. Schools that have implemented CEP have experienced significant increases in school meal participation and many other benefits that support the health and education outcomes of children in high poverty schools.

California Organizations United on Ending Summer Hunger

Forty-five California-based organizations came together this week to express our united support for H.R. 2715 / S. 1539, a bill that has the power to significantly decrease child hunger during the summer months. This diverse group of organizations from across the state of California representing anti-hunger, public health, social service, direct service, and education, sent letters to our California Senators and Representatives requesting their support and co-sponsorship of the Stop Child Summer Hunger Act of 2015.

Medi-Cal Direct Certification Update

CFPA advocated for a demonstration project to occur in California to certify low-income students in Medi-Cal households for free meals without the need for a paper application. Thanks to this advocacy and the leadership of the California Department of Education (CDE), California was one of seven states selected. Fourteen school districts have been approved and have begun or will begin matching students in the coming school year. The number of free and reduced price students in districts served by this demo is over 240,000. We expect participation in free school meals to increase in approved districts by considerably more than the six percent seen in other demonstration projects.
