Dear BFCCPS Community,

Throughout the month of March, all students in grades 3-8 will take the PARCC Performance Based Assessment. Teachers and students have been getting ready for the exam in a number of ways.

As an example, grades 4-8 have taken two writing assessments (October & January) that mimic Constructed Response PARCC questions. Grades 3 and 4 have been modifying their Reading Street Benchmarks to be more "PARCC-like', in terms of the structure and wording of questions. Teachers in grades 3-8 are having students provide evidence from a text for any claim that they make. Before the test, all tested students will take a tutorial in the test platform and take a practice test during a trial that mimics the testing environment.

This past fall, we held a Parent Pillar night focused on the PARCC Assessment. In case you missed the meeting, or in the event you would like more detailed information, we invite you to visit the following links. You will find answers to frequently asked questions, definitions of common terms relative to the PARCC exam and links to sample tests.

PARCC: Expanding Access

Sincerely,

Heather Zolnowski
Head of School

Updates from the BFCCPS Health Office:
January and February are peak months for influenza, and there are students in our school community who have been diagnosed with influenza. Attached is a link to the CDC's "The Flu: a Guide for Parents."  A link to this information is also available on the Health Office webpage.

Please remember to keep your child home from school if (s)he has a fever greater than 100.0 within the last 24 hours, or has vomited within the last 24 hours.  If your child is diagnosed with influenza or strep throat, please let the Health Office know.

Also, please remember that hand-washing is an excellent way to help prevent spreading germs and getting sick.  For visual confirmation that hand-washing works, check out these petri dishes growing germs from hands pre and then post hand-washing.  Notice how many fewer germs grew from the washed hands!
Reminders from the Front Office:

Absences: Please call the school office to report any student absence. Leave your child's name, grade, and date. 508-541-3434. If you have a dismissal change, please email your child's teacher and Laura Tappin [email protected] with the details. Thank you.

Inclement Weather Procedures:  If the Franklin Public Schools are cancelled or delayed, BFCCPS is also usually cancelled or delayed.  Please look or listen for "FRANKLIN PUBLIC SCHOOLS" on local radio and television stations. We will use the Blackboard notification system to provide phone and email updates with regards to cancellations and delays. For expanded information please see this page on the school website.

Visitors: All visitors to the school are required to sign in at the Front Office and wear a Visitor's badge. Thank you for your help with this!
