FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Dr. Tim Culver, Sun Prairie Area School District Superintendent, will retire from his position with the district effective June 30, 2015.   The School Board is expected to act on his resignation at the December 22, 2014, School Board meeting.  While Dr. Culver is retiring from Sun Prairie, he will continue his work in public education as the Superintendent of the Oak Creek-Franklin School District beginning in July.

In a letter to staff, Dr. Culver writes, "It is with mixed emotions I share with you that I will retire from the Sun Prairie Area School District at the end of this school year.  I have tremendously enjoyed the challenge of being a leader for children and schools in Sun Prairie as we have grown from 4,000 to almost 8,000 students."

Dr. Culver has been Superintendent in Sun Prairie for 17 years.  During this time, he has led the district as it grew by nearly 4,000 students with significant shifts in student demographics, built two new elementary schools and one new high school, remodeled all existing schools to meet equity standards of the new schools, improved the district's financial standing by increasing the fund balance while operating below state revenue limits, and increased communication efforts in the district.  During his tenure, Dr. Culver initiated full day kindergarten, Sun Prairie's 4K program, and the Sun Prairie Education Foundation.  He most recently led the district in the development of the new strategic plan adopted this year.

Dr. Culver has built sustainable partnerships for the school district that will continue for years to come, including those with Dane County, the United Way, Centro Hispanico, The Urban League, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and Rotary.

School Board President Tom
Weber stated, ""We're very thankful for everything Tim has given to the Sun Prairie Area School District over the past 17 years.  He's had a tremendous impact on the lives of thousands of students.  The foundation Tim has laid will guide us for many years to come.  We wish him all the best in his future work."

Prior to coming to Sun Prairie, Dr. Culver was the Assistant Superintendent for Instructional Programs in Marysville, Washington.

Also in his letter to staff, Dr. Culver writes, "A change after all these years with you will be quite an adventure.  However, please count on me to continue to work my heart out for and with you these next 6 months."  He closed his letter to staff saying, "Thank you for the privilege of caring deeply for you and, most of all, thank you for caring deeply about me."
