In July 2015, Russian air carrier Yakutia Airlines inaugurates direct service between Anchorage, Alaska, and the city of Yakutsk, Russia. The new route to Yakutsk, which operates via established destination Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, is an extension of the airline's Alaska-Russian Far East Air Service which is now entering its fourth year..

Travel agents are reminded to always include accurate and complete passenger passport information in customer reservations. The DOCS entry must include the passenger's full name as written in passport (last, first and, if applicable, middle name); passport country of issue, number and expiration date; passenger's country of residency, date of birth and gender.

If the passenger is not a US citizen or legal resident, US address details must also be included in the reservation with the DOCA entry.

Inclusion of the above information is required by US Government regulations.

Navy Day, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, July 26, 2015:
Come to see a spectacular commemorative parade held in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky's main square to honor the Russian navy. Visitors will also enjoy colorful theatrical performances.

International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples, August 8, 2015 &  Aboriginal Day, second week of August, 2015: The United Nations' (UN) International Day of the World's Indigenous People is observed every August to promote and protect the rights of the world's indigenous population. This event in Kamchatka will aim to promote culture of Itelmen, Koryak, Even and other indigenous peoples and recognize the achievements and contributions that they've made. Celebrations, concerts, and performances will be held at various facilities, native centers and villages throughout Kamchatka.

Skyrunning Russian Series 2015, Kamchatka, Avachinsky Volcano, August 15, 2015
: Come to see spectacular events featuring races where earth meets the sky. The event is supported by the Kamchatka Ministry of Sports and Russian Mountaineering Federation.

Rock Festival, Milkovo settlement, Milkovsky House of Culture, August 16, 2015: This annual event will bring rock bands from all over Kamchatka. They will compete for "the best rock band" title.

 

Wild Harvest Festival, Razdolny settlement, last Saturday of August, 2015: The festival of Kamchatka native peoples combines recreation and education into an unforgettable experience. Participants will learn about wild edibles, including wild berries, honey, herbs, etc and their use from knowledgeable instructors, as well as their use in native cultures. There will be various activities, workshops, demonstrations, and performances.

International Fishery Congress, Vladivostok, August 27-28, 2015  (tentative):  International fishery Congress is a forum for discussing the most acute and topical issues. It's attended by delegates from many countries, including representatives of federal and regional authorities, industrial associations and unions, scientific research organizations, and companies of the fisheries industry. Sakhalin Oil and Gas Conference, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, September 28-Oct 1, 2015: This is the annual conference for the oil and gas industry in Russia's Far East - a chance to gather with peers, to debate the latest developments, share experiences, and learn about innovations and best practice from a 70+ strong expert speaker faculty. Watching Seabirds and Sea Mammals in Komandorsky Federal Nature Reserve

The islands are reachable from Petropavlovsk either by small plane twice a week or by boat (with no fixed schedule). But both methods may be unreliable due to capricious weather. The only inhabited settlement on the archipelago - Nikolskoye village - is located on Bering Island. Medny has been abandoned but evidence still remains of the formerly populated Preobrazhenskoye village with a few ruined buildings. The largest part of the islands' territory and their aquatory belong to Komandorsky Federal Nature Reserve established to preserve the virgin nature of these unique lands.
