Dear USAID friends,
As the Holy Father Pope Francis arrives for the first time in the United States, we are excited because he will be championing action on difficult challenges that we've been working to solve for many years.
On the cusp of the biggest moment for the international development community in a generation, he will draw attention to our shared responsibility to uplift the poorest among us.
This weekend, 193 world leaders will gather at the United Nations Sustainable Development Summit to adopt new Global Goals to end extreme poverty and ensure that every one of us will be able to share in this progress.
We believe in the goals and in a world of "extreme possibilities" because we have made great progress since setting the Millennium Development Goals in 2000. But we know that we need action in addition to hope and inspiration to achieve this new set of global targets.
During the summit, USAID will unveil a call to action for entrepreneurs and inventors to join the fight against extreme poverty in the coming years through our Global Goals Innovation Challenge. We believe that the tools, technologies and new approaches to end extreme poverty are out there.
