| New Accountability Dashboards - Important Stats
The UCSD Office of the Vice Chancellor for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion has launched the UC San Diego Accountability Dashboards. The Dashboards present demographic data of UC San Diego faculty, staff, and students. They're designed to help guide the university in tracking and sharing its progress, as well as strategically focusing on equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Understanding this data is critical for the university to assess strengths and weaknesses in the realms of access, recruitment, retention, and success, and having this information publicly makes the university more transparent and accountable.
This is the first version. Comments, questions, or feedback of any kind is welcome at
ir@ucsd.edu. This feedback will be incorporated into later versions.

New Free App to Find LGBT Roommates: TUTUroomii
A UCSD team recently launched a new iOS app called TUTUroomii. This app is designed to help LGBTQ+ young people and allies find ideal roommates in their own community.
The functionality of the app enables customers to search for both roommates and available housing resources based on personal preferences. It also provides a chat platform to enable deeper communication between potential roommates, to better ensure compatibility. Even for people not currently in need of roommates, this app could be a useful way to make new friends in your community.
TUTUroomii is entirely free, and available now in the App Store.

Weekly Discussion Groups at the Center:

Trans Discussion Group | Tuesdays, 5:00-6:00pm
Trans Discussion Group is a committed and organized support and discussion group designed for trans folks, including individuals who are questioning and/or identify outside their assigned gender. There will be weekly group meetings on trans and gender related issues, group activities and group outings! It's a good opportunity to meet new faces and share each other's experiences. This is a closed space.
Fluid Attraction | Wednesday, 5:00-6:00pm
This group is an open dialogue and supportive space for those who identify with bisexual, biromantic, fluid, pansexual, panromantic, queer and questioning experiences. We welcome you to attend, listen, participate, and connect with others as we explore fluid sexualities and/or fluid romantic attractions. This is a community space where confidentiality will be respected.
Femmes of Colour | Thursdays, 6:00-7:00pm
This is a closed space for Femmes of Colour.
Decolonizing Queerness | Thursdays 7:00-8:00pm
A closed group for QTPOC (queer and/or trans-people of color) to get together, create space, and foster community to (re)learn about our identities through healing, non-Western, and decolonial community practices.

Sonia Honne-Gonzalez, the Career Services Center Liaison to the Campus Community Centers, will be at the LGBT Resource center on Wednesdays to offer career advice. Come in and connect with Sonia regarding career readiness, job search strategies, professional development, professional planning, and/or resume review!

Yolanda Ramirez Escamilla, who comes with more than twenty years of experience in all aspects of student counselling and advising, will give out some good advice to help students learn to manage their own money.
This is part of the Life Skills Series: What You Won't Learn in School, a collaboration with the five Campus Community Centers.

Film Screening "A Girl at My Door" with Q&A

Structural and Materials Engineering Building 149
An event co-sponsored by the Korean Studies department and the History Department, this intense film set in South Korea handles many issues relating to family, child abuse, and friendship. It has screened at many film festivals and been nominated for numerous award. The Director July Jung will answer questions after the screening.

Join us for an interfaith dialogue and refreshments, as we discuss our journey of spirituality, faith, and religion; learn from our differences, and discover our commonalities. Students from all faith and non-faith backgrounds are invited to participate.

Film Screening "The Lemon Grove Incident" by noted filmmaker Paul Espinosa
Oct. 23rd, 2015 | 7-9pm

The UCSD library recently acquired the work of award-winning filmmaker Paul Espinosa, and in honor of him, the CCC is showing this film focusing on one of the earliest school desegregation cases in U.S. history. "The Lemon Grove" (1985) examines the response of the Mexican American community in Lemon Grove, CA, to a 1930 school board attempt to create a segregated school for the Mexican American children of the district.
Light refreshments will be served.

Common Ground is open to both academic and community submissions for this issue.
You are invited to submit your artwork, spoken word, poetry, videos, reflections, recipes, and other forms of conscious expression. Please provide a brief artist's statement or reflection with your submission.
If you wish to submit academic work, all academic submissions with grade marks are welcome. Send your essays, research, senior honors thesis, and other scholarly work!

Rocky Horror Picture Show Event
Oct. 27th, 2015 | 7pm | PC Theater
Let the spookiness begin before Halloween!
The Rocky Horror Picture Show is a cult classic, and an experience like little else. Doors open at 7pm for Time Warp Dance lessons, a costume contest, and more, and the movie itself begins at 8pm. The movie will be accompanied by a live performance of the story, the "shadow cast."
This event is free and open to the public. It's hosted by Thurgood Marshall College's Film Studies Minor.
The story of Rocky Horror is of secondary importance to the experience of it, but it is the tale of the newly engaged couple Brad Majors and Janet Weiss who find themselves lost and with a flat tire on a cold and rainy late November evening. Seeking a telephone, the couple walk to a nearby castle where they discover a group of strange and outlandish people who are holding an Annual Transylvanian Convention. (Also, although somewhat outdated, it was one of the first times in a major movie a transgender character was seen on-screen.)

Robert Giard Fellowship
$7,500 Photography Award

The Robert Giard Fellowship Award will be awarded in support of a new or continuing project that addresses issues of sexuality, gender, or LGBTQ identity. This award is presented to an emerging, early or mid-career artist from any country working in photography and still images.

Thinking Gender

Submissions are open for the graduate student research conference on the topic of Spatial Awareness, Representation, and Gendered Spaces. Submissions can include papers, posters, panels, and films, as long as they engage with the politics of gender, race, sexuality, and space. We also intend to address international and transnational encounters, and colonization and decolonization practices.

Outside the Gender Box
, which will be the first anthology to focus on the experiences of trans and non-binary gender students, staff, and faculty. Articles should be 5,000-7,500 words and can be research or first-person narrative.

LGB Attitudes & Experiences Survey
A team from the University of Tennessee is conducting an empirical study about the attitudes and lived experiences, and invites anyone over 18 who experiences some same-gender attraction to participate. It should take approximately 25-35 minutes. There will be a raffle for $20 Starbucks gifts cards among the participants.

Opportunity to Urge Gov. Brown to support AB 959
AB 959 would ensure that sexual orientation and gender identity data would be collected along with other important demographic information used to determine state policies and funding. A petition is circulating in favor of AB 959, to increase out visibility in state policies.

Lesbian Body Image Survey
The Department of Psychology at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville is doing a study on lesbian attitudes & feelings about your own body,gender identity and gender expression. Lesbians over 18 are eligible and $50 Amazon gift cards will be raffled for participants. The survey should take approximately 20-30 minutes to complete.
