OURAY ELKS EASTER EGG PREPARATION & EGG HUNT
Mark Your Calendars Now for April 3rd and April 5th
Children will squeal with delight on Easter Sunday, April 5th, as the 48th annual Ouray County Easter Egg Hunt gets under way in Ouray's Fellin Town Park at 2:00 PM.
Sponsored by Ouray Elks Lodge #492, the egg hunt will provide 1200 candy-filled Easter eggs for children in four age groups. "As many as 200 children take part in this free event," said Elks spokesman Jim Pettengill. "Some lucky youngsters will win a stuffed animal to take home, and we are continuing an old Elks tradition of including several 'golden eggs' in each age group. These eggs will each contain a dollar coin. Everyone should have a great time, and the Easter Bunny will be here to talk to the children, which they really love."
While the annual egg hunt usually escapes bad weather, Spring in the San Juans is never predictable. "If there is significant snow on the ground in the park, we'll hold the hunt at the Ouray Elks Lodge," Pettengill said. "But it's much more fun outdoors. Hopefully weather won't be a problem."
Children are divided into groups for ages 0 - 3, 4 - 6, 7 - 9, and 10 - 12 for the event, and each group gathers eggs from its own area. "It takes us about an hour to distribute the eggs, and the children will completely clean out the park in about five minutes," Pettengill said. "It's a tremendous amount of fun for everyone, another example of the kind of traditional, family-oriented community activity that the Elks have been presenting in Ouray County for more than a hundred years. If people want to help us get ready for this great event, they can help fill candy eggs at a potluck preparation session at the Elks Lodge on Friday, April 3rd at 6:00 PM. While we focus on plastic eggs because most of the children prefer them, traditional cooked eggs will also be accepted at the lodge on Friday night."
For more information about the Ouray County Easter Egg Hunt sponsored by the Ouray Elks Lodge, call Pettengill at 626-4239.

AUSTIN PIAZZOLLA QUINTENT
Cabaret-Style Tango Concert at the Wright
"...About the most memorable of the 72 concerts I hosted last year. The musicianship was at a level that made me forget to breathe." - House concert promoter, Austin,Texas
Shake off the winter chills with a hot night of music and dancing as one of the foremost tango ensembles in the country performs a cabaret-style concert at the Wright Opera House on Saturday, April 11 at 7:30 p.m.
The highly acclaimed Austin Piazzolla Quintet draws inspiration from the music of the late Argentinian composer Astor Piazzolla and has been described by Denver's Dazzle Jazz club as "one of the foremost tango ensembles in the country."
Founded by violinist James Anderson, the APQ has been performing to captivated audiences since 2009. With Jonathan Geer (piano), Mike Maddux (accordion, bandoneon), Tony Rogers (cello), and Pat Harris (bass), all from diverse musical backgrounds, the band continues the tradition of nuevo tango through intense live shows which feature unique arrangements of Piazzolla's compositions, innovative original works, and fiery improvisation.
Cabaret-style seating, a cash bar and authentic tango dancers will lend atmosphere to this unforgettable evening. Seating is limited so advance ticket purchase is highly recommended. The Austin Piazzolla Quintet concert at the Wright Opera House is presented by the Ouray County Performing Arts Guild.
Showtime is 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost $15 and are available online at www.ocpag.org or by calling 970-626-2970 .

RIDGWAY AREA TRAILS NEWS
CPW APPROVES $200,000 GRANT FOR RAT TRAIL CONSTRUCTION!
WOW!!! The Eagle Has Landed!!
Last week Colorado Parks and Wildlife officially approved a long-pending COPMOBA grant application for $200,000.00 in new trail construction funds for the RAT system near Ridgway.
Needless to say, we are all psyched and ready to rock for 2015. Once the funds become available (probably mid-summer), RAT will go into over-drive with new construction.
We plan 16 weeks of continuous construction with 7 - 10 person crews, 40 hours a week. We will use both pro building crews and Southwest Conservation Corps Youth Trail Crews to build the system out. These crews will add a total of 8 new trail miles to the BLM lands within our system.
But Wait. THERE'S MORE: On top of the CPW grant, Ridgway State Park has also received approximately $80,000.00 in grant money specifically for new trail construction. Parks crews will begin construction of those trails (on Park lands) on or about May 1, 2015. We expect the Park crews to complete these trails by early July of this summer.
All told, we now have money to build an additional 13-14 miles of new trail. It's all coming this summer. We have completed almost 8 miles of new construction in the past 2 years, so, when completed, RAT will total over 20 miles of sweet, new, interconnected single track on BLM and Park lands. Stay tuned for more updates on the recent funding awards and related construction plans.
