Tours are free to members, another great benefit of becoming a
SPP member! The tours offer all a chance to see some of the best of the 'Burg's architecture, learn about the city's history and to take in some of our special historic neighborhoods.

SPP is conducting a search for a part-time executive director (20 - 25 hours/week).
Are you a passionate leader with a strong voice who can clearly and effectively make the case for protecting the places that make the 'Burg special? Are you a well-organized, self-starter with administrative skills who can work independently and collaboratively with volunteers and others?
Does having a flexible part time job with a growing organization appeal to you?
If you answered yes to these questions and are interested in this position, take a look at our job description. Still interested, submit (email) a resume and brief explanation about interest in the job to SPP.
SPP will also be hiring later this year an event coordinator. This part-time position, about 30 hours/month, will require evening hours on event nights. The job involves both working with our volunteers and handling the various details of putting on successful events - from lining up venues to purchasing food & drinks to setting up the event. If interested in this position, email SPP, again telling us briefly why you are interested and telling us a bit of your background.

The Final "Boom, Bust & Built Environment" Series Program

A diverse and interesting panel offering a program at one of the 'Burg's fun spots that reuses the past makes for a great evening! Join SPP for the final program in the popular "Boom, Bust & the Built Environment" series.
Times are a changing and the popularity of urban living in a walkable community is growing. But not every city is going to be successful - cities need to be livable, sustainable and have a sense of place! The program panel, with each member having a different experience and perspective, will discuss what cities need to do to become sustainable, what makes urban neighborhoods attractive/desirable and
how does the reuse of historic buildings fit into successful urban growth. Discover what St. Petersburg can learn from the experience of other urban success stories.
Speakers: Curtis Ostrodka, Orlando, Manager planning & design studio for VHB, Inc. a leading design & engineering consulting firm; Michael Mincberg, Tampa, President, Sight Real Esate, a real estate & development firm with several Tampa Bay area historic reuse projects; Jeff Danner, St. Petersburg, President Grand Central, Inc. and former city council member.

Movies in the Park - Added Movie Night on
November 5 Announced !!
With two more October Movies in the Park nights stilll ahead, SPP is excited to announce an additional movie night has been added to the schedule on Thursday, November 5. SPP will help celebrate the best of wild Florida, in conjunction with the Florida Wildlife Corridor, with the showing of the award winning film, Florida Wildlife Corridor Expedition - Everglades to Okefenokee 1000 miles in 100 Days. Movie in the Park goers will also get to see a preview trailer for the Expedition's second film, The Forgotten Coast - Return to Wild Florida.
Movies in the Park are popular so to guarantee a good spot one should come early! Food and drink will be available for purchase from some of Saturday Morning Market's most popular vendors or one can bring their own picnic all while listening to the live music before the movie. Movie goers are encouraged to bring their own blanket or low seat (a limited number of folding chairs will be available).
Convenient parking for North Straub Park is located at the Baywalk garage or in the Beach Drive (Pier) parking lot. For those who would like to leave the car at home, free and secure valet bicycle parking will be available on-site thanks to St. Pete Bike Co-Op!

Oct. 22 - Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory
(1971) (G) - SPP joins Keep Saint Petersburg Local and its annual Localicious Festival by offering this family fun "foodie" film, starring Gene Wilder. The film is scrumdidilyumptious! Music by Skully.
The Birds (1963) - Get ready for Halloween with this Hitchcock thriller about a wealthy San Francisco socialite who ends up in a small Northern California town. Her visit takes a bizarre twist when the birds begin attacking. Music by Liz Pennock & Dr. Blues.

New Use for an Historic Home!
The 1912 Henry Bryan home survives, albeit at a new location on MLK Street South. SPP played a key role in the advocacy that ultimately stopped demolition of the historic property and of Bay Gables, the adjoining historic building. The home is pictured above, where it was built over a century ago, on 4th Ave. NE. Today, the site is home to one of downtown's new condominiums.
 The historic home was designated as a St. Petersburg landmark in 2004. The designation was a key in having the property owner look at relocation rather than demolition when the owner was ready to redevelop the property. The home was moved and donated to Habitat for Humanity. The home is pictured on the flatbed trailer as the house move began! Relocation of historic homes is not a preferred alternative as the context of historic buildings is typically an important part of their significance. Sometimes, however, relocation is necessary to save a structure from demolition.
 The final photo shows the restored Henry Bryan home on its new site. As part of the home's renovation, a window workshop was conducted, offering interested persons a chance to find out first hand how to restore wood frame windows.
