From the President...
As you know, MIC held its Public Meeting on the evening of Tuesday October 13, 2015 in order to educate those who
came out, on the topic of the "pros" and "cons" of cityhood. Those who attended, were treated to an informed panel
of speakers from a variety of parts of the metro area and who shared their experiences with our community.
It was apparent that many of you were merely curious as to what cityhood might entail whereas others of you came to the meeting with thoughts of what this might mean for Mableton. There were so many who came out, that it was standing room only. On a night when there were so many events, and when you could have been elsewhere, you cared enough to come out to listen and/or to express your thoughts.
We are continuing to hear opinions, as well as receive information, since the night of this meeting - this was clearly a
topic about which many of you wanted information/had opinions. Obviously, the discussion as to what to do with
respect to Mableton does not end with a meeting, no matter which side of the issue you are.
On behalf of the entire Board and the organization I wanted to thank all of you who attended our Community Meeting
on Tuesday night to learn more about cityhood and how it might affect Mableton. We appreciate all the input and your passion for our community.

| Fall Storytelling Festival |

Saturday, October 17th from 11am to 4pm
|
The annual Storytelling Festival presented by the South Cobb Arts Alliance and its
 Friends of the Mable House group will be Saturday, October 17th from 11am to 4pm at the Historic Mable House on Floyd Road. It's a great day of old-fashioned family fun with historical crafts, games, panning for gold, and other activities, including tours of the 1843 Mable House and the historic grounds.
The South Cobb Lions Club will be on hand with their annual barbecue lunch; tickets are $7.
The storytellers are the centerpiece of the day - amazing individuals with the ability to transport children of all ages to other places and times with only the sound of their voices.

| Hogwarts Halloween at the Mable House |

Friday, October 30th at 5:30pm and 7:30pm
|
Come to the 1st annual Hogwarts Halloween on Friday night, October 30th! With a little imagination and a lot of fun, the Arts Center staff will create our own Great Hall. Let the sorting hat place you into a Hogwarts house, enjoy your Halloween Feast and take home your sack of candy from the Honeydukes Express trolley.
Tables for 4 are available for $50 for the 5:30pm and 7:30pm events. Space is limited, so call (770) 819-3285 for reservations. Proceeds benefit the Historic Mable House.

| MIC Zoning Committee Meeting |

Monday, October 26th at 6:30pm
|
MIC's Zoning Committee will meet on October 26th at 6:30pm in one of the South Cobb Library Study Rooms. If you would like to join the Committee, please contact Robin Meyer, Committee Chair, and plan to attend the meeting. Space in the Study Rooms is limited, and if a large group is expected, we will need to find a different location. Please confirm the location with Robin before attending.
The Committee reviews all zoning and variance applications in 30126, meets with applicants to learn more, and then recommends a position on the application to MIC's Board of Directors. The Committee's goal is to provide citizen input during the County's public hearing process to help shape new development and redevelopment in our community. The committee needs people from all over Mableton who want to learn more about the process and contribute their ideas.

| 5th Annual Halloween Haunt After Hours |

Tuesday, October 27th, from 4:30 to 8pm
|
The 5th Annual Halloween Haunt After Hours event, sponsored by the South Cobb
 Business Association and 17 other business groups in Cobb and Douglas County will return to Six Flags Over Georgia. The Haunt provides great networking opportunities for business and nonprofit organizations, so mark your calendar now for Tuesday, October 27th from 4:30 to 8pm.
Organizers expect more than 2,000 attendees and there will be select rides open for your enjoyment, as well as a variety of entertainment. Sponsorships are still available and tickets have already gone on sale. For all the news about the Haunt,

9am. We will meet in the Kroger Shopping Center parking lot adjacent to the Autobell Car Wash on Floyd Road. Autobell will host this event and will provide refreshments for those who "finish the course".
With the added traffic islands since the road project completion, it's a bigger job than before, so your help will be greatly appreciated. It takes only about an hour for MIC volunteers to pick up the accumulated trash and it's an hour well spent! Floyd Road will look a whole lot better when we are done. Wear sturdy shoes or boots and bring gloves if you like. We provide latex gloves, safety vests, trash bags, bottled water -- and a warm welcome.

| Silver Comet Marathon and Half Marathon |

Saturday, October 31st at 7:45am
|
The Silver Comet Marathon and Half Marathon will be held Saturday, October 31st with the first runners leaving the Mable House Complex at 7:45 am. Registration closes October 25th.

The course begins and ends at the Mable House Complex. Runners will travel up Floyd Road and turn west on the Silver Comet Trail. Those running the full marathon will reach Hiram in Paulding County before turning around and heading back to Mableton.

| Be a Secret Santa for the Girls & Boys Club |

Annual MIC Holiday Project
|
Each year, MIC partners with the A  .W. "Tony" Mathews Boys and Girls Club in Mableton to provide Christmas gifts for the children at our local club. The Secret Santa program helps more than 50 children with their Christmas wishes each holiday season.
MIC members and friends who participate will receive the child's wish list, including favorite toys, clothing sizes and other needs. It is suggested that each sponsor spend approximately $50 per child. If you want to spend more, you can be a Secret Santa for more than one child.

| "Bugsy Malone" to be Presented by The Theatre Project |

Friday thru Sunday, November 6th thru 8th

The Theatre Project will present "Bugsy Malone" at the Mable House Barnes
 Amphitheatre with its cast of young actors, sponsored by the Mable House Arts Center and the South Cobb Arts Alliance. Show times are Friday, November 6th at 7pm; Saturday, November 7th at 2pm and 7pm, and Sunday, November 8th at 5pm. Tickets are $8, with kids 12 and under free. "Bugsy Malone" tells the story of two gangs comprised completely of children, who square off in a 1920's rivalry. Bugsy Malone, a one-time boxer, is thrust not-so-willingly into the gangster limelight, when all he really wants to do is spend time with his new love. | Help Clean up Nickajack Creek |

Saturday, November 14th at 9:30am
|
MIC is planning our next Adopt A Stream outing on Saturday, November 14th at
 9:30am. We will be cleaning up Nickajack Creek in the area which will become the Chattahoochee River Line Park. Volunteers, both adults and students, are encouraged to come and join us. The terrain is beautiful, but it can be slippery, so boots or sturdy shoes with good soles are important. Bring your own gloves, too, and MIC will provide the trash bags.
We will meet in the parking lot of MSC Industrial Supply at 6700 Discovery Boulevard. We have permission to park in the lot at MSC near the bridge on Discovery Boulevard. Past clean-ups have resulted in dozens of bags of trash being retrieved from the creek and prevented from going down the Chattahoochee. We expect this time to be a fun and rewarding as ever. For the last several years, MIC volunteers have "adopted"
Mable's Tea Room
,  providing volunteers and homemade cakes and soups for this wonderful Mableton tradition. In return, the
South Cobb Arts Alliance
, which sponsors the event, makes a donation to MIC. The Tea Room has become an important fundraiser for MIC as well as a chance to serve our friends and neighbors.
MIC is volunteering on December 4th and 5th and it's a lot of fun, so come join us! Many of our volunteers from last year will be returning, but we are always ready to welcome newcomers to this fun event -- and we can always use more cakes and soups, which count towards MIC's fundraising goals.

The South Cobb Arts Alliance is also bringing back the popular Mommy & Me Teas this year. They will be held on Sunday, December 6th at 1pm and 3pm. Children and their mothers, aunts, grandmothers and special friends enjoy a light lunch served by their favorite Princesses! Tables seat 4, 6 or 8 and range from $45 to $85. Reservations are required; call 770 819-3265.

| Save It Forward Helps Our Neighbors |

Food Pantries in Local Schools

One thing we admire and appreciate about Mableton is its diversity. That diversity is not just in the historic and new or the businesses and parks, but in its people! However, we have a great portion of our community that struggles to feed their children. That is where the non-profit organization Alive Ministries comes in.
They have a program called Save it Forward in which they provide food and necessities to many of the families in our community in need. In 5 years, over 11,500 children have been served (almost exclusively in Cobb County) through this program.
How? It began by cutting coupons! A team of people would use coupons for also-on-sale items to purchase items at extremely low costs then donate them to those in need. It has grown into a program that has constant volunteers, a warehouse, 15 partner schools in Cobb County, and cooperation with other non-profits.
Please consider supporting Alive Ministries so that they can support your neighbors. There are MANY ways to serve: donating coupons, shopping for specified items (usual cost is $5-6/week), volunteering at the warehouse or school 1 or 2 times a month, donating food or money ($12/month provides 75lbs to a family each month!), or hosting a food drive. They also need pantry supervisors to serve 2-3 hours/month at Clay Elementary and Pebblebrook High. Please go to the Alive Ministries' website for more information and to sign up!
