Our Mission: To care for anyone experiencing the impact
of a life-threatening illness or grieving the death of a loved one.
The holidays are a time filled with tradition.  This December, Hospice of Santa Barbara will host a Santa Barbara community tradition - the 32nd Annual Light Up A Life celebrations.  We invite families and friends to gather in Santa Barbara, Goleta and Carpinteria, to hang a personalized tribute to those they hold dear in our hearts and celebrate the lives and memories of their loved ones.  We will reflect on the past and look to the future.  We will recall those who have walked this journey with us.  As we hang our stars, we will bring life to our memories.

Please join us for one or more of our Light Up A Life ceremonies.  All ceremonies begin at 5:30 pm rain or shine.

November is Worldwide Bereaved Siblings Month
The sibling relationship is the longest relationship we will experience in life. These relationships shape us and make us the people we become. Growing together with your siblings you will experience more life experiences with them than any other relationship you have and you discover the similarities you share and the unique differences between you.

When a sibling passes, the surviving siblings not only grieve for the loss of their loved one but also experience a loss of self. Often siblings become a neglected group of grievers, usually becoming secondary grievers to parents.

Hospice of Santa Barbara offers a unique support group dedicated to provide comfort and healing to adults grieving the death of a sibling. This time limited group begins November 18th, 2015 and runs through January 20th, 2016. For more information or to register, please call 805-563-8820. Pre-registration is required.
Last Quarter
H ospice of Santa Barbara provided to our community free of charge:
  • 957 individual counseling sessions to adults, children and teens grieving the death of a loved one,
  • 502 care management and spiritual care visits to patients and their families impacted by a life threatening illness,
  • Performed 753 hours of volunteer service to support those in need.
So how does HSB provide all services free of charge to our community?
Although HSB has an endowment which distributes funds annually to cover administrative costs, HSB stills needs to raise over $1.3 million to cover its annual operating expenses.  We work diligently throughout the year to fundraise through special events, annual giving, and planned giving.  However, we are especially grateful to our individual donors.   Whether from a person who supports the mission of Hospice of Santa Barbara or a client who recently received our services, all donations are greatly appreciated.  Here are some words of thanks from our donors.

We so value the service you provide to our community and the comfort you provide to families.

If my husband and I were billionaires, the enclosed would be several million, for Hospice is one of our favorite non-profits.  How could it not be?  We are all going to die, and is there one person alive who wants to die alone and in pain?  Thank you for your good work.

A deep hearted thank you to Virgina Moreno (counselor) for giving me amazing direction that will resonate for me for the rest of my life.

No One Dies Alone Is Back!
After a brief hiatus for revitalization of the program, HSB's No One Dies Alone (NODA) program is back serving our community.  NODA volunteers are specially trained volunteers that provide a reassuring presence to actively dying patients who would otherwise be alone. NODA Volunteers provide patients with that most valuable of human gifts:  a dignified and compassionate death.  Hospice of Santa Barbara collaborates with Visiting Nurse and Hospice Care to serve patients at Villa Alamar, Heritage House and Buena Vista Care Center.
