You did it again! Chamber of the Year! |
Because of your support, the Michigan Association of Chamber Professionals has awarded our members with the 2015 Outstanding Chamber of Commerce Award in the Large Chamber Category. This is the fourth time your Chamber has been recognized for excellence in organization leadership and this is the most wins for a large chamber in the State of Michigan!
"The Muskegon Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce received this award based on its accomplishments in leadership and governance, financial stewardship, business advocacy and member programming," said Bob Thomas, Director for the Michigan Association of Chamber Professionals.
"Among the Chamber's noted achievements were its leadership in state and local policy issues and economic development, its role in the "Watch Muskegon" image campaign and community development, and best practices in leadership development."
The Outstanding Chamber of Commerce Award is based on a comprehensive application judged by chamber of commerce professionals from seven regional states.

Stephen Burnett of the Great Lakes Cruising Coalition shown with Chamber President Cindy Larsen and Community Development Director Bob Lukens |
One of your Chamber's current priorities is recruiting cruise lines to Muskegon. We were recently visited by Stephen Burnett, Executive Director of the Great Lakes Cruising Coalition.
He met with Chamber staff and other local port and tourism leaders about what it takes to become a port of call for great lakes cruises to start docking in Muskegon.
"We learned a great deal of information about necessary logistics, planning excursions, how to work with the cruise lines and more," says Chamber President Cindy Larsen. "We have a huge opportunity in front of us to attract cruise lines to the area."
According to Stephen Burnett, "Muskegon will make a fantastic port of call."

A "Chamber of the Future" |
Nearly 100 Chamber board and staff members from several chambers of commerce across West Michigan, recently gathered to participate in a conversation to talk about how our organizations need to adapt to become a "Chamber of the future". Mick Fleming, President of the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives flew in from DC to help facilitate this event.
Your Chamber staff worked with our peers at other Chambers to learn about what the next generation of business owners will look like and how they will shape the Chamber.
A list of new ideas generated will be rolled out into our programming and communications next year. This is your Chamber! Please
contact us at any time with ideas that you think will help area businesses.

Find the Bar!
Whether or not you're drinking, it's a great idea to position yourself at the edge of the bar. Here, you can easily strike up conversation with people as they wait in line or as they turn with a drink in hand.
