Pilatus PC-24 Takes Off

The first flight of the PC-24 Super Versatile Jet took off from Buochs Airport on May 11. The maiden voyage began at 10 a.m. local time, and approximately 1,800 Pilatus associates witnessed the business jet begin a flight that lasted 55 minutes. According to Pilatus, the PC-24 twin-engine business jet climbed to 10,000 feet in approximately three minutes and followed a route from Altdorf to BrĂ¼nig via Engelberg in central Switzerland. Three PC-24 prototypes will be built and used to complete a rigorous test program during the next two years. Certification and initial deliveries are planned for 2017. Pilatus sold 84 PC-24's at the 2014 European Business Aviation Conference & Exhibition a year ago. More...

 


ADS-B Around the Globe: Different Deadlines, Similar Challenges

Author Dave Higdon takes a look at the subject of ADS-B across the globe in this month's Avionics News. He writes that on some levels, ADS-B progress abroad appears more rapid and robust than in the U.S. Nonetheless, some of the issues in the U.S. ripple through other regions, such as Australia, according to voices in its aviation community. The variety of deadlines and systems in use highlights the importance of learning what's required, by when and where. The spectrum ranges from mandates already in effect to where the mandate remains years into the future. Operations outside the U.S. are a mixed bag of ADS-B Out requirements, evolving standards or a wholesale lack of ADS-B requirements. More...

Transport Canada Issues Advisory Circular for Parts Documentation Requirements
During the last several years, changes have been made to the civil aviation regulations, international agreements and policies within Canada and around the world. The complexity in regards to the requirements for proper documentation for new and used parts has increased, and the guidance material has not necessarily kept pace with these changes. The Transport Canada Civil Aviation has been working with its international partners to harmonize requirements as well as a new AC to provide the appropriate guidance. AC 571-04 was issued in February 2015 as result of this effort, and should provide the needed guidance for the Canadian industry to work with various suppliers and customers around the world. Presented by Don Dominguez of Radioman Avionics, this course is designed for technicians who have completed the AEA's Basic Wiring and Avionics Installation course and/or have a couple years of basic avionics installation practice and are looking for more experience integrating common general aviation installations. Attendees will learn the proper methods for conducting pitot-static and transponder certification testing. PENTASTAR AVIATION  named TRACY NEIL director of marketing. In addition, the company was voted in the top percentile of fixed base operations by AIN and Professional Pilot.

HONEYWELL AEROSPACE cockpit technologies were selected by Southwest Airlines for its future fleet of Boeing 737 MAX and existing fleet of Boeing 737NG aircraft. In addition, the Civil Aviation Administration of China and the Air Traffic Management Bureau successfully completed the first flight demonstration of Honeywell's Ground-Based Augmentation System. And finally, Honeywell Aerospace released the new CNX-250 multifunction router, enabling aircraft to connect to a cellular network while on the ground and transition to a satellite connection while in flight.

SAFE FLIGHT INSTRUMENT CORP. named PAUL QUAINTANCE vice president of sales and marketing. 

AERO-MACH LABS signed an agreement with GLOBALPARTS.AERO to have the Augusta, Kansas-based aviation parts supplier serve as an authorized distributor for its products. 

OSHINO LAMPS AMERICA offered a suite of T-1 wire terminal lamps designed especially for aircraft instrument panels. 

ROCKWELL COLLINS was selected by Airbus to provide the Electronic Flight Bag interface and communication unit for Airbus A320 and A330 aircraft families. In addition, Rockwell Collins, along with nine undisclosed airlines from around the world, launched a trial program for the company's new ARINC MultiLink flight tracking service.

CUTTER AVIATION named DANIEL KEARNS to the position of regional aircraft management sales.

GULFSTREAM AEROSPACE CORP. named AMY ARIANO vice president of human resources. 

GULF COAST AVIONICS completed its first Garmin G1000 panel upgrade on a Colombian Air Army King Air B200. 

REVUE THOMMEN announced the selection of the HSL-1600 searchlight system by The Swedish National Police.

MISSION AVIATION FELLOWSHIP began providing helicopter transportation to remote areas of Nepal damaged by the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that occurred on April 25.

KANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY SALINA is adding an unmanned aircraft systems cybersecurity concentration to its Professional Master of Technology and is currently enrolling students for the inaugural class beginning Monday, June 8. 

DUNCAN AVIATION recently celebrated 30 years for its parts sales consignment team. 

ASTRONICS CORP. introduced a lightweight, low-priced enhanced vision system designed for the general aviation, kit builder and experimental aircraft markets, called the Max-Viz 1200X. In addition, Astronics launched its CorePower Induction Starter Generator System with the successful completion of the first flight on Pilatus Aircraft's new PC-24 Super Versatile Jet platform.

MID-CANADA MOD CENTER, a UNIVERSAL AVIONICS authorized dealer, is installing dual UNS-1Lw SBAS-FMS on three more of Calm Air's ATR-42 twin-turboprop aircraft. 

VECTOR AEROSPACE added  EASA certification to its Cockpit Voice and Flight Data Recorder FAA STC applicable to AS332 C, L and L1 helicopters. 

VIH AEROSPACE announced an introductory pricing program for its FAA- and Transport Canada-approved and STC replacement Master Caution Panel (#: MCP001) for the Bell 212 series helicopter. 

AVIATION INSTITUTE OF MAINTENANCE -- KANSAS CITY will play host to a special celebration, May 19-21, to honor National Aviation Technician Day. The event is free and open to the public. 

VALAIR AVIATION was awarded a multiyear fuel contract with Defense Logistics Agency Energy. Under this contract, Valair Aviation will supply Jet A fuel to DLA Energy through its FBO services at Wiley Post Airport in Oklahoma City.

ACR ELECTRONICS announced that DUNCAN AVIATION of Lincoln, Nebraska, is now offering emergency locator transmitter support services on ARTEX ELTs and parts. 

JET AVIATION ST. LOUIS received authorization from the Cayman Islands as an approved maintenance organization from the Cayman Islands Civil Aviation Authority.

NORTH-SCOUT AVIATION celebrated its grand opening at Kirksville Regional Airport in Kirksville, Missouri. It is owned by Jon and Cindy McNay and is an avionics repair and maintenance shop certified to work on single- and light twin-engine aircraft.

In 2009, General Aviation Caucuses were formed in the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate to inform congressional members and staff about the importance of general aviation to the nation's economy and transportation system. Today, the House GA Caucus has grown to become one of the largest caucuses in the House of Representatives.
