104th NYCPM Commencement Confers Doctor of Podiatric Medicine Degrees on 89 Graduates

Todd J. Albert, MD, of Hospital for Special Surgery and Weill Cornell Medical College Delivers Keynote Address; Albert and Three Trustees Receive Honorary Degrees

An audience packed with proud families and friends energized the 104th Commencement of the New York College of Podiatric Medicine (NYCPM) on May 27, 2015 at Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center. NYCPM faculty, led by President and CEO Louis L. Levine, presented the diplomas and hooded the graduates.

   The Hippocratic Oath was administered by Michael J. Trepal, DPM, FACFAS, VP of Academic Affairs and Dean, and President Levine conferred the degree of doctor of podiatric medicine on the 89 members of the Class of 2015. Fifteen of the graduates were hooded by

NYSPMA Elects Officers and Trustees

Dr. Trepal Receives Lifetime Achievement Honor; Many NYCPM Alumni Recognized

At the 119th Annual House of Delegates in Cooperstown, NY, on May 29-30, the New York State Podiatric Medical Association elected officers and trustees, including several alumni of NYCPM: President, Andrew Shapiro, DPM ('86); President-Elect, William Pierce, DPM; Vice President, Paul Sherameta, DPM; Treasurer, Patricia Nicholas, DPM ('93); Trustees, Maria Branca, DPM ('94); Vanessa Darmochwal, DPM ('94); Charles Lombardi, DPM. (Trustees serve three-year terms.) Barry Block, DPM ('76), JD, publisher of PM News, was elected to serve a one-year term as an APMA House Delegate.

Eileen Daly Chusid, PhD

 

In her 11 years at NYCPM, Eileen Daly Chusid, PhD, has not lost her vital interest in research, in how things work in the body and why or her drive for excellence. Currently Dean for Pre-Clinical Sciences, Associate Professor for Pre-Clinical Sciences and Director of Histology/Cell Biology at NYCPM, she also maintains an academic appointment at Mt. Sinai, where she earned her PhD in Biomedical Sciences.

PMR  a 'Magnificent Accomplishment'
Michael Rossidis (2016), 2014-2015 Editor-in-Chief of the 2014-2015  Podiatric Medical Review , proudly announced its completion and availability in the library and on the NYCPM website . Rossidis noted in his announcement that he and his fellow editors and peer reviewers had had a record amount of submissions and publications for this year's journal, and in the next few months will work with his team to distribute it nationally to podiatric residency programs.
   He also announced next year's Editors: Aaron Bradley, Editor-in-Chief; Danielle Boyle Senior Editor (both 2017); Djavlo Khakimov (2108) and Sam Mark (2107), Editors.

Trustee Kathy Reilly Fallon, DPM ('94), Receives Award from The College of New Rochelle ...

According to PM News, President Judith Huntington of The College of New Rochelle (left in photo) presented the Ursula Laurus Citation to Dr. Kathy Reilly Fallon on June 6, 2015 during the College Alumnae weekend. The Ursula Laurus Citation was created by the College in 1956; it's given to alumnae/i and friends of The College of New Rochelle who have shown selfless and generous devotion to the ideals and rich traditions of Ursuline education.

 

 

... and Gives to Benefit Hospital in Nepal

Heavenly Productions Foundation, of which Trustee Kathy Reilly Fallon, DPM ('94), is an executive board member, raised nearly $700 in a bake sale in Armonk in early May. According to PM News, with those funds, combined with other donations and money from the foundation's emergency fund, the foundation will donate $1,500 to the Orthopedic Hospital in Nepal. Dr. Fallon organized the sale with fellow executive board members Dr. Cathy McGovern, Lori Rocco and Sheryl Nolletti.

IPC Heads to Jamaica After 1st Cook-Off

The International Podiatry Club (IPC) held its first cooking competition at NYCPM on May 21, judged in part by Rakesh Chandiramani, owner of the Vin Sur Vingt wine bar. First prize was the title of Best Cook of NYCPM, and a Cuisinart food processor. 

   And the winners? First Prize: Dr. Peter Barbosa and Norali Rodriguez: for Piñón; Second prize: Marsha Bailey: Jerk pork; Third prize: Michael Rothstein: Chocolate truffles.  A truly delicious competition enhanced by Dr. Barbosa's tasty sangria!

IPC Members Learn Kinesiology Taping

In early June, the Physical Therapy Department gave a Kinesiology Taping Workshop to members of the International Podiatry Club (IPC). Gregory Taylor, PT, DPT, in photo, said that "second and third years alike enjoyed learning about and applying this popular taping technique used by professional athletes around the globe."
