St. Paul's Church

April 30, 2015

Jesus said, Give, and it will be given to you.  A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap.  For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."

(Luke 6:38)

I received a call from Pastor Terry Pugh from Northside Agape Church last week.  Pr. Terry is very faithful to call me about 3-4 times a year to check in and see how I'm doing.  This time he called to invite Jen and me to a special celebration, called "A Royal Gala," that his church is having for him and his wife Jackie to celebrate their ministry.  I told him that I was so honored that he thought of including us.  He responded, "Oh no, Pr. Jon, you have no idea what St. Paul's did for our church.  When my family came to Vero, the church felt so bad that the parsonage was in such terrible shape.  They were so embarrassed that they wouldn't even let us go over to see it.  The church felt down and defeated.   Then your small church people came over and worked so hard for us.  You all totally inspired them."

JGR and Pugh He went on to explain that because of what we did, the church took on the challenge of renovating their sanctuary and the bathrooms in their church.  They were able to complete the whole project and pay off all of their debt.  Pr. Terry said, "Pr. Jon, you HAVE to come see it!"  Well, I got in my car immediately and drove over to check it out (see the photos below).  Pr. Terry's joy and gratitude are uncontainable, and he can't say enough about St. Paul's Church.  I told him how grateful we are that the Lord used us in that way-we received way more than we gave!  Working together on that project in the earliest days of St. Paul's was the perfect bonding experience for us, right when we needed it the most.

I want to thank you all again for your faithfulness as we bring Christ to the world.  It's a delight to serve the Lord with you, and to see the Lord performing miracle after miracle in our midst.  I know the Lord has many more stories like Northside Agape in our future.  As we give of ourselves, He's returning the blessing many times over.  Please pray that the Lord would open new doors for us to do more local missions projects, and also for the Belize Mission Team as we prepare for our trip in June.

Gratefully in Christ,

Pr. Jon

EASTER EGG HUNT

The Garden Club was a beautiful setting for St. Paul's Annual Easter Egg Hunt.  The children had a great time running and searching for plastic eggs filled with candy throughout the garden.  Two lucky children found the bunny eggs redeemable for a special prize.  Wally found & won the solid chocolate Easter bunny & Anthony won the stuffed 'Webkin' bunny. A great time was had by all!

 SKIMMERS

The Skimmers (children ages 9-14) continue to meet each Wednesday night from 6-8:00 p.m.  We now meet at Bethel Creek House right across from Jaycee Park.  It is a great space and we are still able to spend some time at the beach each evening (swimming and of course skim boarding). Following beach time we have a light supper, music, a Bible study, and if time, a game or two.   Last week we started a new unit on the Apostle Paul.  All children (ages 9-14) are welcome.  So if you have a child, grandchild or neighbor let them know about this awesome program.

LENT RECAP

A big 'THANK YOU' to everyone who participated in this year's Lenten Program, "Give Up & Give Back."  We collected a vast assortment of school supplies, hygiene products, toys, baby supplies, medical supplies and bibles.  All items will be picked up later this week and delivered to Holy Sacrament where they will be sorted  & then shipped off to Belize.  The Mission Team will be helping to distribute these items when they arrive in June. Last opportunity to contribute is THIS SUNDAY.

FLAMEVINE LANE PROPERTY UPDATE
We have received parking agreements! The Building Committee is now preparing to apply for permits. Please continue to pray for all aspects of the planning-engineers, architects, and city planning.  Please pray also for the funding of the renovations that we would be wise stewards of the resources the Lord has given us.

The Mission Team will be sponsoring a Bake Sale on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 10th
with all proceeds going to benefit
the Mission trip to Belize.  The team will bring baked goods  to sell on that day.   Any other donations of
baked  goods from others for this Outreach
Ministry will be greatly appreciated.

APRIL 2015 UPDATE:

Wow!  What a journey Jesus takes us on.  Something about living life to the full...

(John 10:10).

As I may have written or told you, we at Crossroads are on the verge of our Summer-in-the-Parks initiative. We will have weekly services under a tree in Belmont Park, just like we did last summer, beginning 5/31.  But this summer we will also have a total of six well-advertised events in Charlottesville City parks. We have reserved the parks' shelters and will provide food, live music and activities for all ages.  We anticipate the help from friends who attend and lead in other Charlottesville churches.

Included in the summer initiative will be sign-ups for people who want to stay in touch or get involved in various "Beyond Survival" experiences that Crossroads is offering for the Fall.

Thanks to all of you who have been praying for us and encouraging us along the way.  His blessing.  Your blessing.  Our blessing.

Gratefully Yours,

Dave Petty and the Crossroads Team
