2015 Lifetime Achievement Award Winner 
Tim Garvin celebrated for his impact across Massachusetts

MNN is proud to announce that  Tim   Garvin , CEO of the  United Way of Central MA , is the recipient of the organization's 2015 Lifetime Achievement Award. The award will be presented at MNN's annual conference on October 21.

A respected and beloved leader in the nonprofit sector for over two decades,  Tim is being honored for his thoughtful approach to philanthropy. This approach is reflected in his many accomplishments, including his track record of creating partnerships between nonprofits, government, and communities to make a measurable impact on the lives of residents in and around Worcester and across the state.

" Tim's passion, commitment, and energy epitomizes the service and leadership that make nonprofits such an innovative engine for a strong Commonwealth," said David Shapiro, Chair of the Massachusetts Nonprofit Network's Board of Directors. Performance measurement is about making our missions possible. But it's not how we typically use measurement systems and the reams of data they produce. I've seen firsthand the return on unlocking this potential, and it's powerful.

Nonprofits spend millions of dollars each year on performance reporting and evaluation.  We hire evaluation firms. We buy software products like Efforts to Outcomes (ETO) and Salesforce. This money is largely spent to prove to funders that our programs have an impact worthy of their investment and to current funders that we're spending their money wisely.

This gets us stuck: we're using data to prove the value of what is, not to uncover the potential of what could be. Keep reading...

Access to Justice Fellows Program is a project of the Massachusetts Access to Justice Commission and Lawyers Clearinghouse which enables lawyers and retired judges to partner with nonprofits, legal services organizations, and the courts to provide legal assistance to underserved populations. Each Fellow devotes 10-20 hours a week to their projects and meets as a group on a monthly basis, sharing their experiences, discussing issues with community leaders, and brainstorming strategies for refining and expanding the program.
