If you have followed  Dr. Jennifer D'Amico's blog, you know that she returned last month from volunteering her time at the Nepal Orthopedic Hospital. She is now trying to return there to help the people of Nepal deal with the horrific consequences of the earthquake. She has asked Alumni to give to organizations that will help, such as: Doctors Without Borders, International Red Cross or UNICEF. Thank you.

NYCPM's ACE Student Club Holds First Inter-Professional Symposium with 2 Other Medical Schools

Student Eddie Lee (2017) founded ACE - The Health Practitioner's Society, last year, and this year, the club sponsored its first Inter-Professional Care Symposium on April 12 at the SUNY College of Optometry. Lee founded ACE - it stands for Accommodation, Conglomeration and Eudaimonia - to "enrich the professional experiences of graduates so that in the  future, they can associate closely with peers of other health professions. NYCPM Students Volunteer at Community Health Fair, Train Medical Students Too 

 

At the Mount Sinai Community Health Fair were Naeemah Ruffin, Michelle Kaufman, Amanda Riley (all NYCPM, 2016) plus two (of three) Icahn School of Medicine at Mt. Sinai student volunteers, Eziwoma Alibo and Christian Pina. They are both first-year medical students. 

 

On Saturday, April 11, three third-year NYCPM students volunteered at the Mount Sinai Community Health Fair. This health fair provides about 20 different health screenings, including foot health, free of charge to the East Harlem community. Andrew A. Alberti, BA, JD


Andrew A. Alberti joined the NYCPM Board of Trustees in August 2013. Mr. Alberti received an undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Baldwin Wallace College, in Berea, Ohio.  He also holds a JD degree from New York Law School.  Mr. Alberti began his career in 1969 as a staff auditor and tax associate in the New York City offices of Seidman and Seidman, a certified public accounting firm (now BDO Seidman, LLP).  Mr. Alberti later served as Deputy Superintendent in charge of the State of New York Insurance Department's Liquidation Bureau. Carol Callahan, DPM ('83) Honored by CPMA

 

Carol Callahan, DPM, a 1983 graduate of the New York College of Podiatric Medicine and former President of the CPMA (2007), received the John D. Walker Award for Outstanding Podiatrist of the Year at the Connecticut Podiatric Medical Association Annual Award and Installation of Officers for the 2015-16 year on April 11-12. She is congratulated by two other NYCPM alumni: left, Anthony Iorio, DPM ('81), MPH, Associate Professor and Chair, Department of Community Health and Medicine, Assistant Dean for Continuing Medical Education at NYCPM, and right, by CPMA's Immediate Past President Thomas V. Johnson, DPM ('83).

Class of 2015 Achieves 100% Match Rate

Michael J. Trepal, DPM ('81), FACFAS, Vice President of Academic Affairs and Dean of NYCPM, has announced that 100% of the members of the Class of 2015 eligible for residency training have been matched. The 89 graduates have achieved placements in hospitals throughout the five boroughs of New York City, the tri-state area and in 10 additional states throughout the U.S. Dr. Trepal added, "Our students made themselves competitive for positions based on their clinical excellence and academic preparedness. They are all to be congratulated on this achievement."

In Memoriam
Renato Giorgini, DPM

NYCPM mourns the passing of Renato Giorgini, DPM, Professor and former Chairman of Surgery at the New York College of Podiatric Medicine. Dr. Giorgini was instrumental in the surgical education of students and residents for over four decades and served his profession and in particular NYCPM with honor and distinction and in a fashion that can never be replaced. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family. 

In Memoriam

Richard LoTempio, DPM ('61)

NYCPM mourns the passing of Richard (Dick) LoTempio, NYCPM Class of 1961, after a long illness. He practiced for many years in Buffalo, NY, and ended his days in Florida. Dick began podiatry after serving in the Army. He leaves his wife Rosina; he was 82 years old.

Michael Huchital, Class of 2016 , won Honorable Mention at the 28th Annual American Podiatric Medical Writers Association Student Writing Competition, for his paper, "Clinical Training of Podiatric Medical Students and Preparation for Practice in the 21st Century." Congratulations!
