Unhitching My Cart
________________________________________

Have you ever had the feeling that you just know when it is time to throw in the towel, change directions or start something new? Have you ever been at that fork in the road that is calling loudly for your attention? It can often be a place of great suffering. What I can tell you is most of the suffering is about not choosing what to hitch your cart to.

Being on the fence about a decision invites the choir in your head to serve up all sorts of reasons, emotions, excuses and justifications to hang on for just a little longer. All the while, you know you are fooling yourself and you are running out of places to hide and you no longer have the energy to keep up the facade. Remember, whatever you focus on expands.

Imagine you have a cart and it is filled with gifts, talents, ideas, tools, resources, wisdom, education, etc. It's an amazing cart and deep inside you also know it has extreme value and possibilities. In the beginning, you are very excited to share what is in your cart so you set out offering who you are and the contents of your cart to others. You do this in the form of roles and responsibilities within your jobs, careers, relationships, friendships, community involvement, social awareness, family, religions, finances, education, etc. There are many layers of offers and promises to yourself and others.

Over time, the cart gets heavy and what you notice is along the way, you have taken on other people's stuff and the cart is too much for you to handle effectively. In fact there is so much extra stuff, you are not sure what is yours and what is for others. Rather than lighten the load, you look outside of yourself and decide to hitch your cart to someone else to help you pull your cart. Before you know it, the cart is heavy again and the cycle continues.

With great deliberation you finally see the problem is two fold. One, your cart is no longer authentically yours, the stuff you have taken on has distorted the value of your cart and your ability to keep your promises. On top of that you notice that you have possibly hitched your cart to something or someone that isn't going in the direction you wanted to go. You are getting farther away from your goals and dreams. The promises made to you are becoming empty and distorted. You find yourself blaming and finding fault with many situations or people. So, now what?

This the intersection between obstacle and opportunity. It is a new moment in time. You can interrupt the pattern, quit settling for what you know isn't working and step forth into new possibilities even at the risk of not knowing the outcome.

It takes clarity, courage and confidence to reclaim your destiny. This moment of setting yourself free of whatever or whomever is holding you back is pivotal in becoming the co-creator of your destiny. It all begins with you and a willingness to create and live a life you love.

Here is what's next.

If you have ever gotten weary, unfocused, unclear and uninspired with what is in your cart and who or what you have attached it to, that is your sign. If your current thoughts, words and actions are having you suffer a loss of yourself, your identity, your integrity and the quality of your life, then it is time to unhitch. From what you might ask?
  • Take inventory of the beliefs, fears, frustrations, resentments, attachments, disappointments, interpretations, behavior cycles, people, situations, etc, shaping your identity and destiny.
  • Be willing to realign your thoughts, words and actions with what you want and who you want to become.
  • Who, what, where, how and when will you unhitch your cart from what you know isn't working?
  • Begin to take small, consistent actions in alignment with those decisions.
The time is now to take responsibility for your destiny and begin the sorting process. If not now, WHEN?

If you need support in identifying what is in your cart or what to hitch your cart to, contact me to partner with you on this journey.

Looking forward to being your partner in possibilities!
