SEEKING NEW BOARD MEMBERS
Your Chance to Serve

Due to rotation of board members, the Pierce County Chamber is looking for dedicated, community-minded workers to fill three board seats coming up in January, 2016.

Members may self-nominate or nominate other members. Please, contact the nominees prior to making the nomination to make sure he/she is willing to serve. Your nominations must be in writing (mailed or e-mailed) and received by December 1.

Keep in mind, the Chamber of Commerce is a non-profit membership organization. Our primary goal is to promote businesses in Pierce County and help create an overall healthy and sustainable business climate throughout the local area.

For more information on the nomination process, refer to the following excerpt from the Pierce County Chamber bylaws.

ARTICLE IV  BOARD OF DIRECTORS  The government and policy-making responsibilities of the chamber shall be vested in the Board of Directors, which shall control its property, be responsible for its finances, and direct its affairs.  Section 1  COMPOSITION OF BOARD  The Board of Directors shall be composed of seven (7) members. The number of Directors may be increased or decreased from time to time by amendment to these bylaws. All Director terms shall be for three years, unless the Board deems it necessary to stagger the terms of the directors in which case a Director term can be for less than three years upon the majority vote of the exiting Board and consent of the Director whose term is to be for less than three years.  The term of a newly elected Director shall begin at the January meeting of the Board following the year in which the Director is elected. Each Director shall serve for his or her duly appointed term or until his or her successor has been elected and qualified, whichever occurs first. No director shall serve more than two consecutive full terms.  Nominations of candidates for election to the Board of Directors may be made by members of the current Board or by the general membership. In order to qualify for nomination to be a candidate for election to the Board, a person must be a member in good standing and must not be otherwise qualified to serve as required in these bylaws.  At the December meeting of the board, the Board and the members in physical attendance shall be entitled to cast up to that number of votes equal to the number of Board positions to be elected and those candidates receiving the highest number of votes shall be elected to those positions up for election. Should a tie vote occur, the Board of Directors of the Chamber shall vote among the existing members to resolve the tie and shall certify as elected the person on whom the selection falls.  SECTION 2 SEATING OF NEW DIRECTORS  All newly elected Board members shall be seated at the regular January meeting following their election and shall be participating members thereafter. Retiring directors shall continue to serve until new directors are seated.
Help us welcome this month's new members!
