DCSD student survives cancer, carries Special Olympic torch  
On Monday, Douglas County High School freshmen gathered for their first day of school. Among them was a student that some might consider a hero. This summer, after overcoming cancer and the loss of one of his legs, Robert Burns walked triumphantly, carrying the Special Olympics torch as it traveled through Colorado on the way to the World Games. CALL FOR NOMINATIONS FOR SCHOOL BOARD DIRECTORS
DOUGLAS COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT RE1
DOUGLAS AND ELBERT COUNTIES, COLORADO

The Board of Education of Douglas County School District RE1 in the Counties of Douglas and Elbert, State of Colorado, calls for nominations of candidates for school board directors to be placed on the ballot for the regular biennial school election to be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2015.

At this election, three school board directors will be elected representing director districts A, C, and F for a term of office of four years. To be qualified, a candidate must have been a registered elector of the school district for at least 12 consecutive months before the election and a resident of the director district which will be represented. A person is ineligible to run for school board director if he or she has been convicted of committing a sexual offense against a child.

A person who desires to be a candidate for school board director shall file a written notice of intention to be a candidate and a nomination petition signed by at least 50 eligible electors who are registered to vote in the regular biennial school election.

Nomination petitions may be obtained from Nona Eichelberger, Secretary and Designated Election Official, at the Douglas County School District RE1, Board of Education Office, 620 Wilcox Street, Castle Rock. Office hours are 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. on Fridays.
Completed petitions shall be submitted to the Douglas County School District, Board of Education Office, 620 Wilcox Street, Castle Rock no later than 4:30 p.m. on August 28, 2015.
