Tis the month of LOVE and at Green Top we LOVE our owners! In fact, we LOVE you all so much, that we used the results of our Owner Survey (results were sent last week via email) to plan TWO events you told us you wanted - farm specific events and social gatherings. Read on for all the details!
So, while it's still freezing cold (brrrr!) we hosted our first ever CSA Fair in partnership with the Down Town Bloomington Farmers' Market on Feb 22. If you missed, it no problem. There is more info further on. Keep reading.
Secondly, we scheduled a Happy Hour for Feb 25th from 5-7 p.m. at the Marriott in Normal. Our president, Melanie Shellito will give a brief update on the location search. Come enjoy light local appetizers.
And we've got a few tricks up our sleeve for the spring too including a few field trips and a great promotion to recruit new owners in March! Stay tuned!
Happy month of LOVE!

Melanie Shellito, GTG PresidentWell, the groundhog may have scuttled back in his burrow to laze around for six more weeks, but I can assure you none of that is happening around Green Top HQ! Your board members have had some very packed schedules these days, as we get into final stages of negotiations for our site. We've been meeting with our co-op consultants to crunch numbers and get their input on things. We've met with city officials and discussed the incredible value that a food co-op will bring to this community (regardless of our final address). We've had phone conferences with potential lenders (both conventional and co-op focused) and assembled a grant-writing team. And, perhaps most exciting of all, we've been meeting with the property owners of our two location finalists, hammering out details of what a lease would entail and what each detail means to our bottom line.
So, yeah, things are getting REAL around here! And you know what? YOU can do something to help - right from the comfort of your chair. We know that regardless of whether our store opens in Bloomington or Normal, we're going to need local government to get behind this project. Which means that at some point, we'll likely be going in front of a City/Town council and asking for that support. So, if you're a resident of Bloomington or Normal, please shoot a quick email to your council person (or pick up the phone!) Let them know you're a voting resident of their ward (or town) and that you support what Green Top Grocery is going to bring to B/N. They need to know that this project has backing in our community and that owner/residents want them to do the same. That way, if it comes to a vote, they'll have heard from GTG owners and it could make a big difference! Here is the ward map of Bloomington to see who your alderman is.A quick email or phone call is all it takes. Help us pave the way for Green Top to secure our location! In cooperation, Melanie Shellito, GTG board president

The Board of Directors Needs YOU
|
Jerica Etheridge, GTG Vice President
The deadline to throw your name into the hat to run for our Board of Directors is fast approaching. Are you interested in getting more involved with Green Top and would like to help guide our co-op as we work towards opening our store? Now is the time to start thinking about whether serving on the Board is right for you. This May, Green Top Grocery will hold its 3rd annual Owner Meeting where the election to fill those positions will take place.
In the near future we plan to select our location, hire a General Manager, secure financing to build our store and open our doors...all the while continuing to build an amazing community of people that make up Green Top Grocery. The people elected to the Board will help lead us through these amazing milestones.
While there is a time commitment to being on the GTG Board, the rewards of guiding Green Top on its journey are many. The deadline for nominations for the 2015 elections is March 3rd. If you are interested in running for the Board, please contact us at [email protected] so that a current Director can answer any questions you may have about what serving on Green Top's Board entails.
