Generation Schools Network and CARA have been invited to present at the National Coalition of Schools Educating Boys of Color (COSEBOC) at their annual convention in Memphis on April 23rd and 24th! COSEBOC's mission is to connect, inspire, support and strengthen school leaders dedicated to the social, emotional and academic development of boys and young men of color. COSEBOC works with all schools - preK-12th grade; public, charter and private; coed and single gender. COSEBOC connects research, policy and practice and is a learning community for school leaders. Generation Schools Network and CARA will present "Youth Leadership for College Access (YLCA): An effective approach to engaging young men of color in the college application process". This session will introduce the Youth Leadership for College Access model - currently in over 25 NYC public high schools and community-based organizations - and engage participants to think through ways to infuse their college access work with authentic youth leadership. Participants will learn how young people engage their peers in the post-secondary planning process by: facilitating workshops and planning events; supporting other students in their search, application, and financial aid process; and working to promote an overall college-going culture within their institutions. The session will include multi-media, youth presentations, and time to surface and workshop ideas for schools. |
