ANNEXATION AND CITYHOOD REPORT

The second meeting of the House Study Committee on Annexation and Incorporation of new cities was held yesterday, September 24.   We heard public comment and had a thoughtful discussion about whether the fiscal studies for new cities should include data on the county impact in addition to the viability of the proposed city.  Should the fiscal study be updated to reflect new data when the city's map is changed during the General Assembly's political process?  Are "city lites" constitutional when powers can be amended by referendum or super majority votes?  Forsyth County asserts the answer is NO in relation to a new city proposed to be known as Sharon Springs in Forsyth County.  The discussion was sophisticated and relevant and will continue during the next study committee meeting scheduled for October 6, beginning at 10:00 am.  You are invited to attend or join us on-line.  All house committees are streamed on-line on the General Assembly web site.

Survey on Casino Gambling

Would you vote to give the citizens the right to approve casino gambling in Georgia that would fund HOPE and Pre-K students?  Should Georgia join the majority of other states to allow a new form of gambling?

Thank you for your "vote" here!
