Did you know that summer learning is a key factor in the educational success of children? The Community Foundation is participating in a community wide initiative called Reading into Success, part of the national Campaign for Grade Level Reading. Network Spotlight: Training
Two organizations will hold affordable, local, all-day training sessions in June. 
1) Register today for the Association for Talent Development's (formerly ASTD) 2015 Nonprofit Training Day on Thursday, June 4, from 8 a.m.-4:15  p.m. at the Mount Mercy Graduate Center, 1599 Wenig Rd NE, Cedar Rapids. Cost is $30 and includes lunch. Some training sessions include:  The Power of Positivity in the Workplace;  Leveraging Your Leadership in a No Leverage Environment;  PowerPoint Design for the Non-Designer;  Giving and Receiving Feedback; and  Storytelling: Telling your Nonprofit's Story.  Register for the 2015 Nonprofit Training Day here .
   
2) On Friday, June 19, CliftonLarsonAllen (CLA) will hold the third annual Iowa Nonprofit Conference at The Hotel at Kirkwood Center in Cedar Rapids. The conference will feature sessions related to a broad spectrum of organizational concerns - from charitable state registrations and cyber fraud to IRS updates and strategic planning. Community Foundation Summer Grant Deadline 
June 12
The Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation announces the summer grant cycle for local charitable nonprofits. Applications are due on Friday, June 12, 2015, at 4:30 p.m. More information here.

Veridian Credit Union Grant Program
Through a partnership with Veridian Credit Union, the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa has established a grant opportunity for nonprofit agencies. The grants are limited to nonprofits serving counties where Veridian is providing services (including Linn). Visit here for more information about the grant program. If you determine that your organization fits the guidelines, letters of intent are due June 30.

Upcoming Peer Groups

Please contact  Carrie Walker if you are interested in finding out more about peer groups. These monthly or bi-monthly lunch meetings provide a great opportunity to discuss current issues, discover new ideas, and create peer connections.  Email invitations with agenda, topics, and RSVP requests for free lunch are sent about a week before a peer group meeting.

The Library provides valuable access to the Foundation Directory Online at its downtown location. The Directory is a powerful tool for grantseekers. Information and search engines, only available by subscription, can be accessed on a library computer. With dozens of advanced search options, you can dig into grantmaker and grants databases to find exactly the information you need to help get funded and make an impact.
