We are sorry to announce the resignation of  Laura Manzi , our wonderful 4-H Educator. During her almost 2 years here, Laura restarted the Adventures in Science program on the UMD campus, started an Ag science program at Gwynn Park High school and worked with many volunteers and educators throughout the county to reach new youth with science based 4-H programs.  Laura has moved to Connecticut where she will be getting married to Justin Smith. We wish them both all the best.

We are pleased to welcome Kim Rush Lynch as our new Ag Marketing Specialist. Kim has been working part time with us since last summer. We know she will continue to do great things to promote our farms, farmers markets and agricultural community.

Hope everyone is thinking LOCAL right now. There are great veggies, meats, eggs, honey, fruits, wine and baked foods being sold throughout the county, and much more! Please mark your calendars for the 2015 Buy Local Challenge which runs July 18-26. Several of our county's farmers markets will sponsor activities. More on that next month!

Sincerely,

Karol Dyson

Did You Know....?

Do you know the 4-H pledge ..... "I pledge my head to clearer thinking, my heart to greater loyalty, my hands to larger service, and my health to better living for my club, my community, my country, and my world."

Did you know you don't have to cry when cutting onions . . . To prevent your eyes watering while chopping onions, wipe the chopping board with white vinegar (which won't affect the taste of the onions).

Did you know businesses must have point-of-sale signage when advertising local... Since 2010, businesses that advertise raw meat, eggs, fish, fruits, vegetables, shellfish and processed dairy products as local or being locally grown, regionally grown or produced, or otherwise represented as having originated close by, must have point-of-sale signage indicating the state of its origin. Click here for more information.

Spring is a great time to get excited for fresh, in-season fruits and vegetables!  In the spring, leafy greens and strawberries are in season and you will find that they taste the best and are lower in cost at the grocery store.
