2015 Swing For the Girls Event ... it's a WRAP! by Linda Reid |
What a great way to kick off the summer ... 14 First Tee girls and 46 EWGA members and their friends played together at Morgan Creek in our annual fundraiser for The First Tee of Greater Sacramento. I promise some of these young ladies will soon be super stars in college golf and just might make the LPGA scene. But for this event, they were each part of a foursome with 3 adults competing for bragging rights and slightly smaller prizes.
Format for the day ... 1 best net ball on the par 5's, 2 best net balls on par 4's and 3 best net balls on the par 3's. Once again we had a tie for the winning score - 112 - between teams of Marcia Whiting, Lori Lucius, Chao Chen and their First Tee girl, Kiki Trujillo-Nava and the team of Shaini Lewis, Grant Lewis, Brian Pickren and their First Tee girl, Leslie Young. In the 'card off' Marcia, Lori, Chao and Kiki took home a free round of golf at Morgan Creek and the second place team won a free round at Auburn Valley.
Here are our other winners:
Closest to the pin:
- #4 Women - Fran Cones 13'4" Men - Josh Freshour 16' 2" Girls - Katelyn Harris 6' 8"
- #7 Women - Suzie Everett 6' 7" Men - Grant Lewis 10' 7" Girls - Ari Samuel 2' 6"
- #12 Women - Vicki Philpott 12'4" Men - Ruben Garcia 12'11" Girls - Leslie Young 12' 5"
- And the long drive winners were Pam Katros (women), Josh Freshour (men) and Ashley Knepshield for the First Tee girls.
Thanks to our many volunteers and donors of raffle prizes (we had nearly 50!) we raised over $1250 which will be donated to The First Tee of Greater Sacramento at our year end celebration. Over the last decade the Sacramento EWGA chapter has donated over $20,000 to The First Tee of Greater Sacramento!
It's an amazing partnership!

The Joys of Supervised Practice! by Del Sayles-Owen |
Remember the days when you dreaded going to driving range to practice. Standing out there alone - mindlessly hitting ball after ball... Well those days are over. Nine ladies can attest to the fun of Supervised Practice! There were four sessions during April and May where members gathered for group practice in the relaxed setting of the Leader Natomas Golf Center. Denise Fass, PGA instructor, coached on swing fundamentals and allowed everyone to practice under her watchful eye. She gave everyone valuable feedback. At the end of the sessions, everyone gathered for beverages in the relaxed setting of the Leader Natomas Golf Center. Well if you missed out this spring, a summer SUPERVISED PRACTICE session is being added to schedule: Tuesdays, June 16 -30, 2015. There are three sessions and the deadline to register is June 11th. Click here to sign up now: (Upper Left Photo: Glory Roberts, Lorey Delmater, Pam Katros, Patricia Stewart, Kathy Tejada, Nanette Nelson, Denise Fass. Other photos also include Evelyn Fallon and Kayleen Kott). |
